Texas Longhorns (big hat, no cattle; please don’t Horns Down us)

I don’t get the hate for all of them.

Besides them being good.

I don't get the hate either. I think both brothers are pretty funny and don't come off as douchey in the interviews and exposes I've seen of them. I've even got the chance to meet them in New Orleans(on a city tour in front of Archie's house, which is even funnier), couldn't be a nicer family.
And I don't hate Arch, just feel like he has been given a massive benefit of the doubt due to his last name. Can he overcome all of that and make people like me look like idiots? Yes. But he has a massive uphill battle in college and beyond

Well-stated.

So, turns out that before he started Bloom county, Berkley Bethard had a gig for the U Texas student news rag:

I was OK with them until Eli became draft eligible. Archie and Peyton made sure Eli got to pick which team could sign him. Name another kid - especially if he were an African American - who got the right to chose which team/market he would play in? The NFL caved in for the Mannings.

Mack Brown's Message For SEC Bound Longhorns: "You Better Win"

When asked about the Longhorns' chances for SEC success, Brown had some very simple advice to heed above all else-- win.

“I would think, just in listening to AD’s across the country and the presidents, all of these moves are about money and securing your place at the highest level of sports long-term,” Brown told Finebaum. “And obviously most of that is TV money. And also the better schedule that you have the more enticing it is for season ticket sales and fans, but you’ve gotta win. I think that’s what all of this comes down to. If you don’t win, regardless of whether you’re Texas or Oklahoma or Ole Miss or North Carolina or Clemson, it doesn’t work. Because I’ve tried it both ways and people like it better if you win.”

Kobe Bryant?
a) That's the NBA. b) Kobe signed right out of high school

BTW, at one time the NBA gave the teams the chance to pick local talent first. The Cincinnati Royals obtained Oscar Robertson this way and the next year picked Jerry Lucas who refused their offer and signed with the newly formed ABA Pittsburgh Rens. That not only denied the Royals Lucas's talent, but also the chance to draft Havlicek who signed with the Celtics.
