Tennessee doing Trashy Tennessee things. I'm surprised Vitello didn't sling a few mustard bottles at the Auburn bench as well.

Excellent post on LR talking about how this money that Tennessee is telling these kids they will make is just fairy tale money. There is legit concerns among from actual agents as to whether these kids will ever actually see this money.
If these kids asked to see this money they are being promised right now the places simply wouldn't be able to provide the means to get them the money.

Building on Keith's reference to the LR post, this is written by the poster over there who works for a sports marketing firm and has more detailed knowledge of the inner workings of collectives and NIL than any reporter I have read. He said the Tennessee collective guys are basically medium size fish pretending to be big fish and they hoped that if they got the commitments and buzz, then other people would pour money into the collective. But that's not exactly how it works - other donors aren't incentivized to give when the players already committed, and local businesses don't want to sign up for advertising contracts or whatever when it's unknown kids who may or may not play right away.
Kentucky basketball feels like a realistic expectation for the teams trying to build their roster with money and not much else… and arguably it should be easier to do that in basketball than football, and they still haven’t been very successful at it.Tennessee is going to be one of the teams(along with aTm, Miami, and a few others) that will make most if not all of their headlines off the field with their NIL deals. And they will be an interesting case study in how successful they can become by dropping some enormous bags on HSers, and yet I don't believe anyone who watches football can envision them winning anything meaningful. Tenn WILL lose to Bama and UGA, they COULD lose to fake USC, UK, LSU and Florida(I could easily see 2 or 3 losses in that group). That leaves them with a record of 8-4 or 7-5, so essentially the same team they've been for years, the main difference being that their fan base coughed over millions for recruits just to get the same record
Great comparison, and I fully agree! Only difference is, I don't see these coaches getting the same long leash that Coach Cal has. If that Nico kid doesn't have Tennessee in the SEC Championship by his 3rd year, than IDK how Heupel keeps his job. If aTm isn't in the SEC Championship in 3 years, IDK how they keep Jimbo employed, and same goes for Cryami. I don't think that the "billionaire" John Ruiz in Miami keeps that LifeWallet money flowing if they can't win the ACC in 3 years.Kentucky basketball feels like a realistic expectation for the teams trying to build their roster with money and not much else… and arguably it should be easier to do that in basketball than football, and they still haven’t been very successful at it.
