Team preview: Ohio State (ESPN)

I always thought of JT more as a Woody Harrelson-type in The People vs. Larry Flynt.

By the way, the Blue Ribbon preview of Michigan is fantastic too:

No matter how many games Michigan wins, a loss to Ohio State represents a failed season, and the regular-season finale against the Buckeyes fit right in with the rest of the disappointing campaign. Michigan held a 21-12 lead in the fourth quarter -- and the Wolverines never blow leads like that at home. But the Buckeyes stormed back with two touchdown drives, including a 12-play, 88-yard march capped by Antonio Pittman's 3-yard touchdown run with 24 seconds left to give Ohio State a 25-21 win.

Yeah, that's it exactly, it has nothing to do with the fact that these are currently the most successful teams in some of the nation's largest media markets. :roll1:

I love that ESPN is simultaneously shoving USC down our throats, yet has an east coast bias.

Look I said nothing about East Coast Bias because I don't feel that is even an issue, Espn Likes who they like and thats a stone cold fact, just look at the poll the took last year comparing the best national championship team to the 1 1/2 time National Champion USC trojans, after picking Usc to be end all beat all greatest team in the history of football, most of the guys like Chris Fowler (total and intential name drop) said that Texas would despite the fact that Usc had Matt L. A.k.a. God with a football helmet. I'm just asking that espn be fair because they are after all a news outlet.

Do you agree with that?

No, I don't, because ESPN is not a news outlet, they're an "Entertainment and Sports Programming Network" on cable television, and want nothing more than ratings.

Their agenda is to get the most viewers as possible, nothing more. If the largest media market on the East Coast (New York/New England), and the largest media market on the West Coast (Southern California) all have hot properties simultaneously, then it's not an agenda for a TV network to try and cash in.

I'm sure ESPN execs are just dying to run a "return to the 70s/80s glory" piece on the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, but *ahem* quite frankly, who would give a shit?

If you don't like it, don't watch, read, or click the links. Simple.

I'm sure we'll all get that great, unbiased coverage we've been craving when the Big Ten channel debuts in 2007.

Jim Tressel reminds me of the Woody Harrelson who tried to market oxygen bars in Los Angeles. Or the Woody who just completed his "goddess trinity" with the birth of his third daughter. Yeah, the similarities are positively striking.

I'm just glad that ESPN allows Bill Simmons to write for free (even though I have the Insider from someone else's password). I think that's pretty cool of them...even though his east-coast, Boston-based inclinations are the death of us all!

Hey, Bruce Feldman writes for ESPN Insider, and he is ALL THE TIME giving props to the Buckeyes. Cowherd likes the Bucks, too. Oh yeah, and Kirk does a little show for them from time to time. ESPN has a lot of bases to cover, trying to appeal to the nation and all...they do all right. And believe me, as one who doesn't live in Ohio anymore, lots of people outside of Ohio were eating up all the Clarett nonsense. Just business pursuits. Can't hold a grudge...

Was this a well hidden shot by ESPN????

Wow.........

Are you guys serious? It amazes me how so many take anything that ESPN writes and runs with it. Who gives a shit about the Woody Harrelson/ Hayes comment? He was alluding to Tressel being such a chilled out guy.

I thought that the article was pretty kind (at least what was posted) to OSU and Tressel...actually I thought it was a bit flattering, yet some instantly go on the defensive. Let the old news ESPN grudge go fellas, it just makes OSU fans look bad when you take everything and turn it into a shot against the Buckeyes. Plus, it gives them fuel to write stories to rile you all up.... I'm no ally of ESPN, but it gets a bit old hearing the same tiresome bitching and moaning from some.
