TE Jake Ballard (Super Bowl Champion)

Comments like this frustrate me, because it creates a sense to the public that there is discension in the locker room. I also feel I've seen way too many we need motivation/leadership quotes this year. Not to be critical, but it's Ohio State, there are thousands of kids around the country who would give a left nut to play. I wish there seemed to be more motivation on that front. Sorry, but as my first degree is in sports studies, I buy hugely into the intrinsic motivation, yes you can get motivated by others for a short time, but that motivation has to come from within if it's going to be permanent.

Sorry if it seems like I'm Buckeye Bashing I'm not, every player is entitled their opinion, but I think in the end everyone on the team should take a lesson from former Buckeye Bo Pelini after the Mizzou-Nebraska Game and say, I'm not pointing the finger I'm pointing the thumb. Every starter, backup, scout team player, coach, support staff, and so on win and everyone loses. It's not just one player, until everyone accepts that responsibility, I'm a bit worried.

the fact someone said it says a lot. likely more than one player feels that way. todds ship has sailed thats obvious. hes a great kid and all b10 performer, the staff went another direction. hes been classy it appears about it.

i think more telling that this comment was the two that were made available to the media this week. two guys who has herbie and spiels stated on 1460 were "instrumental parts of the big win" they both then laughed hysterically...

Bingo.

Ballard's comment is up there with Boone's "we play how we wanted to play". It's not the brightest thing to say, and it's not like Tress will see the quote and say "Yes,Todd suit up!"It makes the program look disfunctional.

There's definitely a sense that some guys may be phoning it in, after being letdown after USC.

Asked why the offense isn't clicking, [Ballard] said, "I don't really know. Maybe it's the fact that we're just getting used to playing with everybody. I mean, the offensive line keeps moving around, it's all guys who aren't used to playing with each other. Then there's a new quarterback, obviously. Terrelle's definitely a whole different quarterback from Todd. And the fact that he can run at any time so we just have to keep playing and blocking and keep the blocks alive longer to give him more time back there."

I think the bolded section (my emphasis) says a lot about maybe why and how much the "older" guys on the line are struggling with getting their heads around what's required of them now that TP is the one taking the snaps. Seems to me that's it's just an indication of some growing pains that are challenging guys to get out of their comfort zone and step up their game.

It's to be expected... hell... I'd be ticked off too if I thought I'd finally matured as a player and playmaker and finally found my unique little niche withing the offensive attack and then somebody comes in and pulls the rug out from underneath me and forces me to completely change my philosophy and mindset.

Jake's been a big contributor to this team the last couple of years. He's been our go-to guy in some clutch red-zone situations. He's played a significant role in our success. Maybe I'm reading too much into his comments, but I think he's earned the right to express some frustration and admit that the guys are struggling with the challenge of helping TP learn and grow.

I have to disagree. When a player comes out and almost says that he disagrees with what the coaches have done at the QB position can cause some dissension in the locker room as was noted in the post that you quoted. I do not think it is very good for team morale to have a player questioned the coach's judgment which essentially Jake has done.

I'm not sure he was questioning JT's judgment outright. I'd be curious to know what question he was asked, specifically. If the question was something like, "How would you feel if you had a two-QB system?", his response looks entirely different that if the questions was, "Why do you think you guys are struggling offensively?"

Those sneaky elitist Detroit Free Press reporters, always freakin' baitin' our guys 'n sh*t...

They interviewed him on the local news here in Columbus yesterday and it was shown yesterday evening and he said that he would not have any problems with a two quarterback system. I can't remember his exact words.

Why is Ballard saying this to the media? It is now the opening story on ESPN's College Football Live.

Way to go. :shake:

Just a dumb, dumb thing to do.

And it's not like Jake has graded out that highly in the past games. If he wants us to run more complicated things then he better start doing the simple things correctly. He was just abused in the USC game.

Note to Jake and the OL..now when you miss your first block TP gives you the Opp to make another block or play rather than helping your QB off the ground..every time Todd was sacked a lineman was there to help him up..look at films of TS's highlights or any other successful mobile qb"s they give blockers a chance to redeem themselves if they don't make the first block...

Jake and Beanie both have said things need to change (one a little more controversial than the other), and I'm starting to think that this may be a theme in the locker room. From what I've heard, Hartline isn't happy, Bauserman looked disgusted with the playcalling in the video. Maybe something needs to change. Maybe the issue shouldn't be that this was said in the media..

Either way, I don't like when things get public.

i thought beanie was more cut and dried. his words were telling after the game. weve had five or six players say something now.
