TE Gee Scott Jr. (Official Thread)

IMO we need to see 88 and 13 at TE... no one else.

I get they like 34 and 16 but at the expense of 18, 12, 4 and 11? No that's a mistake. I get they like the blocking of 34 and 16 but IMO it makes it harder because we aren't nearly the threat to throw the ball in that personnel package.
The weapons we have at wide receiver out weights the potential upside the TE could provide. With the inexperience at QB, a young QB will tend to hold onto the ball longer than needed. So the need for the extra blocker IMO is more valuable at this time.

After seeing the way Penn State used their tight ends Saturday night it makes me wonder how much stress and damage Gee could do to a defense on those seam routes.

With an accurate passer, of course. At this point, I'm not keen to see Stroud trying to throw that pass -- sailing one of those is a recipe for a pick by a saftey.

IMO when we have extra blockers in we just attract more pressure and more chaos up front. Putting skill on the field and getting people out of the box really helps a QB see pressure.

For example, if we put in Ruckert and Scott and then split Scott out. If a defense doesn't remove an LB from the box to cover Scott then throw a screen to Olave/Wilson because Scott is out there uncovered. Teams wouldn't do that though and would likely put an extra defender out of the box which helps our run game and more importantly lessens the odds of pressure packages.

Agree with what you are saying in an Ideal situation behind center. I am not sold on Strouds ability to read defense yet.

There's time and place for everything. 34 had an amazing block on Henderson's long stiff arm run that created a massive hole. Stover is coming along, he's just still learning. Next year when Ruck is gone, we'll be happy for the reps they're getting now

Mitch Rossi is the best blocking TE on the team currently. I just hope they get him the ball a few times because it's pretty obvious the ball is following him when he's in there. Break those tendencies.
