TE Gee Scott Jr. (Official Thread)

Good point. The comparisons will come with guys like Gee (and Jake Stoneburner) who start out at WR size but have a frame that just begs for more weight.
I almost mentioned Stoneburner, but checked and he was around 240lbs, but his speed was crazy, he was badly under utilized!

As Bill Lucas alluded to below, the difference is Gee was having to restrict his diet to maintain that 210 lb frame. Naturally, it could get bigger, but he had been working to stay in 210 lb range.

By not restricting his diet, he is going to put weight on immediately.

Obviously, I’m sure Kyle Pitts success has had an influence on this. I think Gee will likely split time between end of formation and being split out. I hope Day and Wilson are able to incorporate his skill set into offense.

Good points, how these kids' bodies mature is something that us fans have no clue about until we're informed. And I'm sure seeing all of the love for Pitts had to be eye opening. But the staff needs to put Scott in positions to actually touch the ball, in order for those comparisons to hold water. Ruckert is really the only TE that we've actively used in the offense. And how he's used this year should bode well for Scott's future at TE. Because I doubt they're bringing him to the TE room to primarily block. He's being brought in to be an offensive weapon/mismatch.

Stoneburner was listed as 230 on the autumn roster in his Freshman season. We don't know what Gee Scott will be listed at in his first Fall Roster, but I doubt he'll still be 215 now that he's made the switch.

The similarity is that both were trying to keep their weight down until the switch was made. The type of TE that Scott will be is very different from even what Stoneburner could have been; very different kind of threat

IMO, I saw the 2 as similar types. Both bigger WRs with deceptive speed(both run in the 4.5 range), and are used for mismatches on the offensive end. Major difference being height, but Stoneburner wasn't the biggest TE who was brought in for his blocking, as is Scott who I predict will be playing in the 235-240lb range.

It might take some time but I’m really excited for this transition. Gee could be a great weapon here and it helps get more playmakers on the field.

It'll happen this year.... when someone is "holding back" to 210? They'll gain 15lbs without even trying
