Slept on it….had breakfast. Coffee. Did the grocery shopping. Setting in to watch NFL. Collected my thoughts. Hugged my grandson at mass this morning.
After all of that my thoughts haven’t changed.

Fuck Ryan Day.
Fuck Chip Kelly.

They have to go.

But I did come around to the notion that OSU doesn’t have to fire Day. The man looked entirely defeated like Urban did in his last month. I think Day steps down after getting hammered in the playoffs.

My pick at that point is to roll the dice on Hartline. I think he can hold the class together and keep mass defections from happening. Keep Knowles. Let LJSr go. Get some Oline in the portal. Let it play out.

What I do know and as I’ve said before under risks of temporary banishments : this team is not going to achieve greatness with Day. He is out Mark Richts. Nice guy. Great human. Good football coach. Just not great. Good is not good enough here. Is that fair? Probably not. But that’s the pressure cooker of the head job at one of the blue chip programs in the entire sport. Don’t shy away from that now. Embrace it.

One thing I will throw out there; up to now I keep saying "no more learning on the job" as far as the next HC.

The more I think about the role though, the more it's becoming that of a general leader of an organization (like any CEO of a business/not for profit etc).

Those skills can be taught and mentored from outside the WHAC. It's all about personalities and managing people, it has less and less to do with X's and O's.

Stanford is on to something with the GM role. We've discussed it here before. I am wondering if you don't build a front office and the coaches get more and more interchangeable like they are in pro sports.

I’ll throw it out there again…

Chris Spielman for GM

He’s got the chops

Ok. So here is my best analogy.

Sir. They have the high ground. We don't need to battle here. If we go past them, we can choose the battle ground and defeat them.
General Lee - My enemy is there and I will engage them.
Lee at the battle of Gettysburg.

Today:
Sir, they have an elite defensive line. However, we have superior receivers and their secondary is weakened.
Day: I will establish the run.

That would be my preference if he hadn't grown up a hard core scUM fan. He attended OSU only because his dad forced an ultimatum on him. I think he's loving his life in that state up north, if he's still with the Lions. Weird.
You’re talking about a guy who has been a consummate Buckeye throughout his adult life. The guy that interviewed for the head coaching job and had a full plan that he presented. Would he be interested, I don’t know but I guarantee you he would put his whole heart and soul into it.

That's true. I remember he was the third or fourth candidate for the job when they hired Tressel. Awfully large coincidence he's relocated up there, and haven't heard him 97.1 in many years, though... Feels like he ghosted us. You may well be right, though.

I agree with you although I’d be interested to know who else we could land. I know we just went with a first time hire but Brian Hartline gets this university and that’s what it’ll take. Also Brian is a true bad ass guy who’s tough and he wouldn’t have to have this big facade.
