Great weekend in Columbus with my son. Adriacos last night. Schmidt’s Sausage Haus tonight. Nice cold walks on campus today. Lots of beers. Oh yeah, there was a game. So disappointing. I’m guessing we will survive and not take a toaster into the bathtub anytime soon. It feels like, if not this year, when? With these offensive weapons against a suspect 5 loss team? It felt like a Marty Schottenheimer team coaching and playing not to lose. How does a team/coach shake off that mentality? I don’t know the answer. I’m just a schlubb sitting up on C Deck, but I think I’m smart enough to know a bad game plan when I see it. It happens. It just can’t happen on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Dammit. Where should we eat tomorrow night?

Day is too far gone to rehab from this mentality. He could stumble into a national title in the playoff but he will come right back and lose to scUM again next year.

You see things differently from me. When a defense allows 234 yards and 13 points (7 of those courtesy of a short field because of a terrible INT), you should win the damn game. Especially when your offense's strengths align with their defense's weaknesses. Instead, the morons that cooked up that ass game plan played into their one strength. This loss was due to the negligence of the offensive brain trust with a hat tip to the special teams (another continual problem under Day). I put this 0% on the defense, who were beasts for 90% of the game, but that's just me.

Not to play devil's advocate, but I don't see how the offensive strengths align with scUMs defensive weaknesses?

The only time this team has moved the ball in the air without a disproportionate turnover worthy throw margin is off heavy play action and high percentage passes that are an extension of the running game.

It's very "controlled", for lack of a better phrase. Howards penchant for early, I'll advised turnovers really makes it difficult to open up the passing game and trusting him to sling it beyond just needing to.

The rebuttal may be to point at stats, but I feel that's a bit hollow without further depth and context.

- scUM's Dline was able to neutralize the perimeter running game and generate TFL.

- Their Dline was able to consistently re-establish the LOS so running at the interior produced runs for no gain or minimal expected gain.

- That further chokes an offense that lacks dynamic QB play as both a runner and passer.

- An average pass defense can now square off with an average passing game and win reps and drives. I'm not calling the Buckeye receivers average, they aren't. The passing game as whole is, but it mostly stems from the QB and OL situation.

I agree with you on special teams. What we saw today was antithetical to Jim Tressel and he's likely disgusted by it. It's one thing to have a shakey kicking game, but tOSU has a near non-existent kicking game.

It cost this team a Natty in 2022, it cost them a win vs scUM today. That is unacceptable.

I'll have to force myself to sit down and watch a repeat of this game to chart plays and work to understand why we went away from concepts that worked. But even then, the ultimate responsibility falls on the Head Coach.

Yes he’s far too gone.

I keep saying this after every OSU loss to TCUN but next year TCUN should take a big nose dive lol.

They lose their entire DL, most of their OL, and their RB/TE.

I have no doubt they’re getting hit with big penalties too so we’ll see what they can hold onto in the spring.

Back on topic though Ryan Day is a shell of himself.

What’s wild to me is how bad luck we had facing the DLs we have this season.

If there’s one thing about the playoffs it’s that we won’t face another DL like the one we played today.

Unless we play IU, Penn State or Oregon again lol.

How fucked up would it be if we played IU again in round one at home? Man talk about regretting trash talking after.

Don’t feel like watching. Summary please
Bill was confused as fuck about what the game plan was, and thinks that Day is coaching for his job.
Austin called it one of (if not the) worst upsets in series history.
Birm said he saw it like (probably) many Buckeye fans as a John Cooper loss. It was a failure of the coaching staff, Day won't get fired, but the players coming out at half time looked like a group that was going to win this game. Doesn't understand the lack of confidence on offense.

I know Urban spread offense got stale at times and boring with all the QB runs, but this offensive play calling is very vanilla in my opinion. Even running a jet sweep forces the D to watch the player jetting across, the RB, and the QB. I miss the jumbo TE package and the FB to help open holes. For all the talk of creativity with both RBs in the backfield together, I never noticed it. Do they try to practice trick plays at all? What happened to the play where we roll the QB one direction and throw back the other direction? Henderson either scored or got huge gains his freshman year on that play alone. Now, I see no misdirection, jet sweep action, jet sweep fake reverse to the WR, nothing. Simple boring vanilla offense! At least keep the defense honest. I also don’t understand why our RBs consistently fall sideways or get pushed back. Lower your shoulder and keep your legs driving. Most of the time, you’ll still get 1-2 positive yards. We have 2 big RBs who lose yardage.

but we moved the ball right down the field with tempo and the quick hitters. Same thing that has worked against them in the past, with a better team. Day was insistent on winning the ground game, and played into their hands. I feel like we win that one going away if we just kept the 2 minute offense on the field the whole game, and not just in the last 2 minutes of the first half.

When Quinn Ewers transferred out a couple years ago I figured there was no way this would affect us this much. But it did. With Ewers last year we may have won it all….this year for sure. Howard has done very well all year. But he showed some signs of not having the arm strength to take the top off of defenses like CJ or JF could.…or QE.

And for FG kicker…..coaching malpractice not go after the kicker from Miami last year. Just unacceptable.

Adriatico's and Schmidt's are my two favorite places in Columbus, great minds think alike. If you are feeling Mexican food, Cazuela's was always one of my favorites if that is still around (so much has changed since I graduated and moved). Urban Meyer's Pint House was actually really good when I went there. Thurman's is always a classic too. Glad you got to enjoy the weekend with your son, I've made a lot of memories with my dad at The Game and even in the one loss that we were there for in '22 we had a great time together.

On the game, I can't really sugarcoat how bad this one hurts. I thought I would wake up and things would feel better, but they don't. There is no way in the world we should have lost to that team. The offensive game plan was terrible and the execution appeared even worse. Not converting on Sawyer's pick and obviously the two missed FGs just killed us, but we should have hung up 30-40 points with our offense. We need to find an actual kicker and Sayin can step in next year at QB. Special teams are killing us still.

And on Day, everyone knows I have been one of his biggest supporters but also said he has to go if he loses The Game this year. Well, I am going to stick to my word - he needs to go after this season. Beating ttun is goal #1 every year and he has not met that goal 4 years in a row. It's unacceptable at Ohio State and especially this year with how down ttun is and being at home with the talent we have, he is earning the Cooper 2.0 comparisons. Day chokes in the most important game of the season and this is one too many times in a row. I know I will get blasted for this statement, but even if he manages to get into the title game or win it, it won't change my opinion because our title game is the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

If they make the title game he's not going anywhere.

BUT if they lay an egg at home against Tennessee or god forbid Indiana in a rematch, he better be gone.

Day may actually want to start the playoff on the road as a win over UT might be enough to save him and a loss won't be an upset.
