Tay"LLLL"or "LLLL"ewan (douchebag)

Actually, the university wasnt fully cooperative. The first whiff of intimidation is a signal that something is wrong here.

At the very least, Lewan's actions have consequences

If M has integrity, they launch a full, transparent investigation

I'm not so sure. From all accounts they did provide her with the available counseling & mental health support. If she was unwilling to press charges what could the University realistically do? One area that I could see criticism is that when she finally returned to school she asked for it to be handled through the school *presumably because it provided more privacy) and they stated they were unable to do so unless she filed a criminal complaint. Again that brings us back to whether criminal complaints should reasonably be expected to be handled internally.

Going by what little documented evidence I could find that doesn't seem to be the case. The only suggestion otherwise is from Dr. Smith who quite honestly comes off like the stereotypical academic with an ax to grind against the FB program, he's seemingly spent the last couple of weeks posting drive by rants on various msg boards & comment sections on articles about the case. Every school has THAT guy (most haver a number of them).

Reading the police report it was the University that contacted them regarding the alleged threats being made by Lewan. A coverup would involve something like...oh I don't know...the President & AD passing emails back and forth about talking to Sandu...err Lewan privately so as not to unfairly tarnish his repuation.

Without a criminal case there's not much the University can do.

Lewan's threat breaks the law regardless

Yet no investigation

Zero transparency here

Thread on the Detroit Sports Forum discussing the case.

Bottom of the first page is where the topic turns to the allegations. There is one poster who claims to have been on the TSUN school paper at the time & knew Gibbons personally who has a very unflattering opinion of the kicker.

Dr. Douglas Smith also makes an appearance later on (as does a letter he sent to the Mary Sue Coleman). He is the former TSUN prof who is behind the originally linked story.
Gotta say...the posters on that site are responding pretty much how I would want posters over here to respond. Not the dumb shit I read over on Stadium & Main at all. Kudos to them.

edit: well....that was before I got to Monster's posts.

My fave:

Hoke, January 2011: "Why is the kicking game so bad? Do you guys practice?"
Kickers: "Sure do. Coach Rod has us practice on the playstation 2. he said the controls are more realistic than the Xbox. He's a genius. One of the tops minds in college football today."

As a father of a son, it would disturb me to have him accused of rape period. It would disturb me more if it were a he said/she said only.

As the father of a daughter, it would crush me if she told me she was raped. But knowing that some would question her credibility, say nasty things about her, etc. would be an understandable deterrent to going public, filing a complaint, and exposing herself to a crass media and defense attorneys whose job it is to destroy her in order to keep their client out of prison.

I have to give Gibbons and Lewan the benefit of the doubt here, but I wouldn't allow them anywhere near my daughter. Too much smoke. Something happened, and even if it wasn't criminal, it was probably pretty despicable.

I just hope this makes those morons in Michigan - who like to talk ad nauseum about Buckeye players who have gotten in trouble - realize that allegations are not the same as gospel truth, and that human depravity and corruption can wear Maize and Blue as much as any other color.

This realization assuredly will not occur as proven time and time again in their history.

Okay then. I just thought I read that schools would be able to expel students following a review board type of thing that had to follow guidelines similar to a criminal case.

Remember I said as far as I'm aware. There could certainly be other requirements out there that I don't know anything about.
