John Paul Jones is a legend.
His opulent tomb is under the Chapel at the Naval Academy.

He may have changed his name to evade British authorities after allegedly killing a man.
Early in Rev War, he went to France to get a ship from Franklin' friends. It didn't materialize, but they gave him a glorified merchant ship to go raiding with.
He decided to run with it, and led a raid to burn down his hometown, Whitehaven England.
Later he captured a proper sloop of war, the HMS Drake, and turned it into his flag ship.

There's more to his story, but that's a quick synopsis.
