Super Bowl XLIII: Steelers(-6.5) vs. Cardinals

I think the league needs to come up with a official ruling in the offseason about this. I think a call like that(same as Pats vs Raiders) can go either way. His arm may have pushed the ball forward, but to me it sure as hell didn't look like he had possession of it.

The thing I was thinking was had they called that incomplete and enforced the 15 yard penalty, that would have give the Cards one play inside the 30. Was surprised they didn't take any more time with that one.

One 'lucky' aspect was Fitzgerald running into Antrel Rolle (who was not on the field when the ball was snapped, but was standing too close to the sideline) as he was chasing the play. I didn't see it until they showed a replay on SportsCenter this morning. Without that contact, Fitz would have brought him down before the TD, but probably with at least 1 second left, so Pitt would have kicked a FG.

There was also the block around the 30 that easily could have been flagged. If it was, I think the half is over, right? It was during the play, and time expired as Harrison was tackled.

That play was the turning point in this game. I went from sky high to feeling like Rampage Jackson punched me in the gut. No amount of Natty could console me last night. Todays hangover isn't making things any better.

Yep - if the penalty was on the team with the ball, the half would have been over.

If a Cardinal had brought Harrison down inside the 10 with a facemask or a horsecollar tackle, and the clock had still gone to zero, Pittsburgh would have received a half-the distance penalty, and 1 un-timed down; so they'd have kicked a FG.

Cards fans were 1 toe away from feeling ultimate euphoria. Must be nice.

If that pass to Holmes had been inconplete, Pitt would have had 1 more shot at the end zone before kicking a chip shot FG and sending it to overtime.

The same type of revisionist thinking for Titans fans has them saying they were 1-yard short of winning Super Bowl XXXIV, when that also would have certainly meant OT.

From a Cards fan on the Steelers' scout board:

As soon as he scored the first thing I said was there is too much time on the board. In 1997 I watched #2 ranked Arizona State score on Ohio State to take the lead in the rose Bowl with 1:49 on the clock. ASU went in to a prevent defense and OSU was able to move down the field and score on us with like 30 seconds left in the game. At that point #1 FSU had already lost so we were playing for the National Championship.

Last night gave me that same feeling and wouldn't you know what school Santonio Holmes went to? I hate OSU almost as much as U of A.
 :oh:
