Lee Corso of ESPN had this to say about Hawaii coach June Jones: "His games are on at the same time as black-and-white King Kong movies."
Many of us are up that late, seeking out Hawaii games, drawn to the 'ohana. We know that the Warriors are not just a wildly entertaining and undefeated football team. They are a state of mind.
'Ohana means family, in an extended sense. Brothers and cousins are part of an 'ohana. So are friends, and friends of friends, or anyone joined in a common cause. 'Ohana is a tether that binds a group with a spirit of camaraderie and cooperation. It whispers: "Remember one another."
Jones rebuilt the Hawaii program by stressing the culture of the place, by recruiting native Hawaiians and others of Polynesian descent, by creating 'ohana. The Warriors are the only undefeated major college team in the nation and today they will meet Georgia, arguably the best team, in the Sugar Bowl, in the Superdome, in New Orleans. Does this sound like a national championship game to anyone else? It does to the 'ohana.

There is a team in the Sugar Bowl tonight in New Orleans looking to make a profound statement. And guess what? It's not Hawaii.
Hawaii (12-0) is the only major college team that's undefeated and has NCAA record-setting quarterback Colt Brennan (29 records, including 131 career touchdown passes).
Hawaii is following fellow Western Athletic Conference member Boise State, which knocked off Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl a year ago, proving to skeptics that teams from conferences that don't earn automatic spots to Bowl Championship Series games can play big-time ball.
