Several random thoughts:

1. New director--very good!

2. Disney--probably bad, but you never know. They've done good with Marvel, for the most part.

3. Good to see Willow getting some props on here. Very overlooked movie.

4. I wonder what the Mouse will consider faster, hyper space travel or SEC Speed!

5. As a big fan of Zahn's work in the EU I would have loved to see Grand Admiral Thrawn and Mara Jade on the big screen; but at least it being an original story means we get nothing from Kevin Anderson and his Jedi Academy crap.

Wow. Good call!

Disney owns Star Wars, now.
Disney owns ESPN, who has a partnership of some sorts with SEC.

So are we going to see Les Miles and Nick Saban in Episode VII?
Maybe Episode VII will be called Rise of the Tide, where the galaxy is overrun by some slow creatures from the north, and the "Tide" will be a race of superhumans, led by whatever select jedi are cast in the movies (I'd like to see Sylvester Stallone and maybe Will Smith's kid team up), who face enormous odds to defeat the north.

In all seriousness, though, I'm excited because my 3-year-old, who LOVES all of the Star Wars movies and Clone Wars cartoons, will be a good age to go see Episode VII. However, what I think will happen is that Disney thinks they will be able to "fix" the Star Wars brand by going the opposite direction from Episodes I-III, and we'll just get a bunch of mindless special effects. Since there is very little creativity in Hollywood anymore, I'm expecting another "Transformers". Cool effects, lots of action, but that's about all they will have time for in the movie.

And for those of you who want Star Wars to get back to "what the fans really want", Carrie Fisher in a gold bikini already happened, and they aren't going to do anything like that, again, in Star Wars.

I wish they'd just re-release the trilogy in its original form, then leave everything the hell alone.

As I mentioned before the first part is my greatest hope. Of course the cynic in wouldn't be surprised if Lucas had stipulated as part of the deal that they make every effort to destroy all evidence of them...but one can hope.

As for the latter there is 0% chance of that happening (as I'm sure you know). Disney just spent $4,000,000,000 to obtain the brand. That means the future is going to include the Star Wars brand milked for every available dollar at a level we've never seen before (and that's saying a lot).

Also it means that we will probably never see Star Wars in the public domain. Disney will push Congress for special exemptions for the brand to stay safely cocooned under their control just as they have everything that Walt originally conceived more than a century ago.

All of which makes me wonder how Disney will approach the massive number of fan based films & other homages that are all over the net. Will they be more litigious than Lucas and start biting the hand that feeds in an attempt to 'protect' their property? Or do they understand the importance those derivative works have in the success of the brand?

If Chad Vader gets sued I'm a gonna cap a mofo!

Well, it's more like '89.

Still that is over 2 decades, so I was being nice by only saying over a decade.

None of the Raiders *sequels were worth a damn IMO. I know people get all gaga because it's Sean Connery but still...meh.

On the other hand the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles wasn't bad considering it's target audience & The Clone Wars is pretty cool...but they were both TV and didn't enter into my original thinking.

*Edit: Forgot the most important part of that sentence.

As far as It being a bad decision on Disney's part....Lucasfilms is netting more than $200 Million annually now on licensing & marketing alone. And that is without the massive push that we will see under Disney management. In the long run Disney is going to make serious bank off of this deal.

Two words: "No ticket."

Also: Marcus Brody got lost in his own museum. Denholm Elliott was great.

I am not sure why anyone would be angry. It's not like Lucasfilm has made a decent movie in over a decade, and even LucasArts sucks donkey dick nowadays. Disney can't do any worse.

Much older than the "last decade" (i.e. 1973); but one of my all time favorites:
