Star Wars (May the Force be with you)

I'm a sucker for aviation and WWII history, so I'm stoked.
Lucas is one of the writers.
Tuskegee Airmen finally unleashed in their Mustangs were formidable. They earned a fantastic combat record - flying a fantastic plane. Who were not racists during a run were aircrews of bombers - who did not care if the fighter pilots were purple so long as they protected them. And protect them they did. Very, very well. So much so that white bomber crews began to specifically request the Red Tails as fighter protection.

I love seeing a pretty p-51 flying across the sky. By far my favorite airplane the the greatest fighter of all time. I attended the "Gathering of the Mustangs" in Columbus a few years ago and it was by far the most well put together airshow I have ever been to. There were over 100 mustangs at the show and they all flew in formation. There were numerous other aircraft present as well, such as the f-22, f-15, and the Thunderbirds. I had a great time.

Love me some 'Stangs.

So I got the Blu Ray of the original trilogy. I have watched some of the first movie. Obi Wan's new scream is pretty laughable. As with much of the changes, it's worse. I also haven't watched the movie in a while. The CGI now looks dated (although it always stuck out in the first place).

On the plus side it looks and sounds great. Too bad it's not the theatrical release.

The thing I don't understand is if they are going to go to the trouble of making changes and bastardizing the whole thing why not update all of the CGI? What does it matter if Vader says "Noooo" at the end of Jedi when the Emperor's force lightning and when he falls down the pit looks like it's still from the 80's? Someone tell George Lucas to stop half-assing it.

Now that I have watched them all, the changes to A New Hope were minimal except the stupid Obi Wan scream (it is bad). Empire is perfectly fine. What was done was very minimal, and the other changes already made from previous versions don't bother me (Boba Fett's voice, the emperor, etc). Yet Jedi had a couple that stick out. Vader saying "No, noooo!" is of course at the top of the list. Yet the CGI they added when R2 gets shot is awful (there are now parts of him that flail wildly). Along with the changes that were already made in the past, Return of the Jedi is completely bastardized at this point. It was my least favorite to start with, but all the additions/changes really messes up the movie. Luckily my favorite, Empire, is still really good and some of the changes are actually beneficial (like removing the blue filter used on Hoth).

Seems like as good a place as any for this. Ever wonder what you're going to do with that extra $852 quadrillion you've got lying around?

The real question is how much more does one have to spend to protect an exhaust port two-meters wide so that some little orphan asshole doesn't come along and OHKO your Death Star?

Holy hell, no kidding.

Although, for any Skyrim nerds, the FUS ROH DAH! comment is pretty funny.

George Lucas says Han never shot first, you were just confused

The controversy over who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo, in Episode IV, what I did was try to clean up the confusion, but obviously it upset people because they wanted Solo to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn?t. It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.

Sometimes I wonder if Lucas actually believes his bullshit. Is he really dumber than everyone in the world who actually understood that Han was a deeper character than Lucas seems to believe?

Why didn't Gloria Katz & Willard Hyuck take the time to explain things to the simpleton?

Well...a couple hundred quadrillion here and there and soon you're talking about real money. I'm sure they were already over budget and the bureaucracies of the Empire started counting pennies.
