Stan Drayton (Head Coach, Temple Owls)

After an interview Thursday morning, running backs Stan Drayton is expected to leave Ohio State for the Chicago Bears, sources told Eleven Warriors.

Drayton, a member of the Ohio State coaching staff since 2011, is the second coach to exit the program in the last two months after Tom Herman, formerly its offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, did so to take over the Houston Cougars in December.

Drayton was instrumental in ushering in an offensive renaissance in Columbus under head coach Urban Meyer.

While doing so, Drayton helped recruit and mold sophomore running back Ezekiel Elliott, who has been projected by Las Vegas sports books as the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy next season. He also helped develop former running back Carlos Hyde, who now plays the San Francisco 49ers, into one of the school's most prolific runners.

Buoyed by a powerful offensive line and talented running backs, the Buckeyes averaged 287 yards rushing over the last two seasons.

At Ohio State, Drayton was paid $295,000 annually, according to his contract. It's unclear how much he will make with the Bears.

Before coaching the Buckeyes, Drayton — a Cleveland native — was Florida’s running backs coach and recruiting coordinator under head coach Urban Meyer in 2010. When Meyer stepped down from the Gators, Drayton traveled north to Columbus where he was Ohio State’s wide receivers coach in 2011. When Meyer was hired by the Buckeyes a year later he retained Drayton as his running backs coach.

I wouldn't be upset if he left to be a head coach or an offensive coordinator. But him just being a RB elsewhere somewhat irks me.

Good luck to him though.

If he was leaving for the same position within college football as a lateral move I would certainly be irked, but this will likely be a pay raise and a more high profile job for Drayton. Such is the nature of the beast when you're a damn good coach, better opportunities will present themselves. Best of luck to Drayton, hopefully he can help get Chicago turned around.

Pretty much. It sounds like he was interviewed Tuesday and you'd think he would have known about the interview at least a week in advance So at the very least he knew a possibility of leaving before signing day. Would have been nice if he stuck around for another month or so to not look shaky but then he likely looses the opportunity for the job. And of curse you don't go around telling everyone you work with every time you interview for a job. It's a good way to get fired if you don't get it. So it's kind of rough on both sides.

I don't know how it works in the college football world but after his 2 year commitment I think he has Urban's blessing without having to inform him of every single interview.

Just saying in the normal job environment it's bad new to tell your boss your interviewing for another job at another company without a strong feeling you'll get it. Everyone knows it happens but if you tell your boss about 10 jobs interviews you've had your not likely to be around to tell them about the 11th etc.
