Well my $50 is on the way. Hopefully we can all step up and more than match CharlotteBuckeye62's generous donation. For those of you that don't know, CharlotteBuckeye62 is one of the best Buckeye fans (at any age) you'll ever meet ... long before this donation. He's always looking out the the best interests of all Buckeyes and has many inspiring and interesting Buckeye stories to tell. Anyway, he's been supporting the Buckeye community for a long time. Well before BuckeyePlanet, but especially at BuckeyePlanet.
It's folks like CharlotteBuckeye62 that make this site great. There are others out there as well that support this site (and others) at every opportunity (check their medals). They are a big part of why BuckeyePlanet was started. People with a passion for the Buckeyes and a desire to expand the Buckeye experience. But make no mistake, this site is also for the casual fan. No one needs to donate $1000 dollars (or $50, or even $5) to be accepted in this community. Many folks donate their time and energies to make the site better in numerous ways. Again, that isn't expected of anyone nor is it required.
This is a community project and the only real tenet is striving to make our community better each day. As with many things, there will be a core group that takes it upon themselves to drive the effort. To tackle the tasks and bear the burden. At BuckeyePlanet, that number grows each and everyday. Folks that take the time and put forth the effort to make our community better. For me (and I imagine Clarity as well) that is one of the most rewarding and satisfying aspects of being a BuckeyePlanet member. Seeing folks pitching in and adding to the Buckeye experience. It might just be a well written post. Maybe a good blog or starting up a graphics forum. Running the vBook or pick'em games. Keeping the forums in order or hosting video clips. Adding to our knowledge about our Buckeyes in recruiting, or rumors, or general news. Moderating the forums and administering the site. Making t-shirts. You name it and the folks at BuckeyePlanet are finding more and more ways to enrich the Buckeye experience.
In under 2 years this site has gone from 1 forum and 5 members to what you see today. Amazing! Recruiting Resources and Charts, Rosters and Depth Charts, Schedules and Calendars, the Arcade, Blogs and Articles, The BP Book, Galleries and a myriad of other features that continue to evolve and grow. Oh and BTW, the best set of forums on the Planet.

Never in his wildest imagination could Clarity have guessed that in such a short time his creation would be pushing 4,000 members and supporting such a diverse and full set of features. There in lies our problem folks. Yes OUR problem, for it has been Clarity's problem since the beginning. While we've had fundraisers in the past, they have only covered part of Clarity's expenses. Clarity has never asked for anything. In the past, many folks had to push him into running a fundraiser just to help defray his expenses. As Mili stated, Clarity has a medical condition which prevents him from holding a steady job like you or I might hold. So the money and time he's spent has been precious indeed. Clarity would never tell you this. He might be upset with me for saying as much. In any event, Clarity has several visions for this place. First is for BP to be a great place to stop by and connect with the Buckeye community. Second (and equally important) is to implement the best Stats Engine covering the Buckeyes. We are half way home. We've got a great Buckeye community in our forums and the Stats Engine has, at the very least, begun construction. Alas, the overwhelming growth in membership is forcing us to deal with a server issue that was originally though to be several years down the line.
I'm going to jump to a conclusion here. Why do you think Clarity's main goals were to have great forums and an unparalleled Stats Engine? I believe that those 2 features are what Clarity would enjoy the most. Talking with Buckeye fans and discussing even the most minute details of Buckeye sports. Time and again (over the past 2 years), I've seen Clarity forestall his vision to make BuckeyePlanet better for the rest of us. Instead of concentrating solely on making his ideas a reality, he has concerned himself with giving us the features we've asked for. A blog/article system, the arcade, different forums, the BP Book, etc., etc. Folks, I submit that it is time for us to "pay forward". Not just for Clarity, but for all the Buckeye (and rival) fans that will come here in the years to come. Folks that you will come to call friend. This is as much about the next Buckeye fan to find this site as it is about you and me.
So, we can languish with an overwhelmed server and deal with long waits, for Clarity won't deny folks membership or require them to pay for access. Or we can set ourselves up for the foreseeable future with a new server and allow Clarity to realize his dreams for this site. Maybe in the future he can cruise the site chatting with folks and pulling up obscure stats about the Buckeyes instead of working to stay one step ahead of the server and site administration. If you have the means and inclination, please consider contributing to BuckeyePlanet. It will benefit you and the Buckeye community now and in the future. If you are unable to contribute, don't fret or feel guilty. I certainly understand and I know Clarity does as well.
As always, I encourage anyone with an interest in helping, or an idea on how to make BuckeyePlanet a better place, to contact one of the Moderators, or an Administrator, or some of the other members. Let's continue to make this the best site on the Planet!
