Maybe it is going up from the monthly donation sign-ups:wink2:

Yeah... I suppose. But wouldn't those have been counted in already - i.e. if somebody sets up a $5 monthly donation, wouldn't that basically be counted as a $60 pledge?

I guess that's the difference between a pledge and an actual donation, ain't?

The total reflects received funds... $5601.29 as of today.

I believe we've added $10 in monthlies since last report for a total of $165/month, counted in the above total as it comes in. Timing varies, but most of those have had two payments so far, with the third scheduled in about two weeks. There are 18 monthly donors.

There have also been multiple donations from BPers aside from the monthly group, which is fantastic.

Still, there are many more people enjoying BP on a daily basis than are reflected in the numbers as yet, and so please take a moment and help out if you have the means. I saw the stat above for $76 per donor... it doesn't quite work out that way. We have a very few large donations, and very many in the $5 to $20 range, and we need both to meet our goals. Most of the people who have given big amounts don't want recognition - they just want to know that there will be widescale participation regardless of the amount, and that we'll act as a community in this sense as we do in every other. Most of the people in that $5 to $20 range have been doing this every drive for years now, or are just starting but will likely be there for BP consistently down the road. Thanks to all of you for supporting this community we all enjoy so much.

However you choose to participate, please... choose to participate.

Talking about the game on BP .... priceless

Priceless ... and free. Free, that is, to each of our 1,679 active members except for one - Clarity, the man whose vision brought us BuckeyePlanet in the first place, and whose generosity has kept it a free site for the past five years. For Clarity, BuckeyePlanet is an expense - a big expense, and growing. Each year, as traffic increases and inflation takes its toll, it becomes more and more expensive "to keep the lights on" here at BP ... and less and less viable to keep BP a free site.

Of course, if Clarity were independently wealthy - or even comfortably well-off - none of this would be an issue, as he is the type of guy who would gladly foot the entire bill for running BP (estimated to be about $8,000.00 for 2008), just so a bunch of people he doesn't even know can have a "free" place to talk about Buckeye sports, Charlie Weis, RichRod, Mike "0-4" Hart, video games, presidential politics, music and movies, groundhog removal techniques, LOLcats, red wine, Al Gore, cheerleaders, and fiery crashes. But as most of you already know, Clarity isn't comfortably well-off, and he simply can't afford to run BP without some help from those of us who frequent this Planet, and expend his resources in the process.

So, in order to support BP and Clarity, we periodically hold a fund-raising drive. Of course, like any other fund-raising drive, participation in ours is completely voluntary - regardless of what you do, BP will remain a free site - some how, some way - because that's the way that Clarity wants it. But think about it for a minute - isn't the best Buckeye site on the net worth at least a six pack of beer and a large pizza? That's just $1.25 per month, and I think it's safe to say that each and every one of us could afford to spend a buck and a quarter a month to help pay the bills around here.

To those of you who have given something already, I thank you and applaud your efforts ... now think about giving just a little bit more - I know that I'll be sending another check to Clarity next week. For the 96% of you who haven't given anything, take a minute to think about doing so - $50.00 might seem like a lot of money right now, but on a monthly basis, it amounts to the cost of a gallon of gas. Our unofficial goal for this drive was $8,000.00, and we're still a little short ($5,601.29 received plus $1,155.00 in monthly pledges for the remainder of the year, for a grand total of $6,756.29 pledged for 2008). As the saying goes, every little bit helps....

Now you motherfuckers know what it costs. We better meet the goal, or I'm gonna crack some fuckin' skulls!

Seriously though. We'd all find some other site to trick off time if BP weren't here. But think of this. It might not be the same site as me. You wouldn't get to laugh hysterically at my wit and humor. Ask yourself..."If I can't read BUCKYLE's thoughts on an Austrian locking his daughter in the basement and raping her for twenty four years...do I really want to be online"? I think you'll find the answer is no.

I will be a little more blunt. I do not see how people can come on to this site and get free information about numerous things and in good conscience not be willing to pay for that information. You would have to pay for it anyplace else. Everyone has something that they can do without for a while to contribute to something that they use almost every day. Come on people show other people what you made of. Many of you like to quote Woody Hayes or love the man and what did he say about paying forward. Look at the donors list on the front page if your name is not on it try getting in on it. Thank you.

I think that those big donors need to realize that they are role models for the newer and less regular users on this site. As such, I think they should put aside their modesty and leverage their good names to help out the drive and set some expectations from the rest of the community. Nobody's asking them to advertise how deep their pockets are or how generous they are. I'm just saying their names should be up on the list...

TIFWIW, but there are some HUGE HUGE members whose names aren't on the donors list. That bothers me... What can I say... I know it shouldn't get in the way of my interactions with them, but it does - I'm embarrased to say. I'm not sure if they haven't donated or they've just chosen to be silent supporters. In either case, if I was newer on the site or didn't spend much time on here, I might balk at the requests for donations because I'd check to see if the big guys are helping support the site. In other words, I'd take my cues for what kind of guy Clarity is from them. If they think he's a good enough guy and are supporting him, then I'd pitch in as well. If they're "silent" in their support, maybe I'd just hang on to my money and wait and see...

Just sayin'...

I'm wondering if one of the freakin' elitists () can tell us the amount of the smallest single donation that's been made thus far. That way, imho, everybody will see that pretty much that there's no reason to feel that we need to pitch in huge amounts. Any donation helps.

Thanks, shetuck. Now I gotta go donate $.01 so I can re-claim my crown as cheapest bastard on the net. :pissed:
