SC secondary takes a hit as Shareece Wright reportedly doesn't make the grade.

Hmmm, how's this affect SC? Whose his backup, what's the depth, what's the impact?

Was wright a Senior? Man, everything on the line and the kid can't hit the books, i know how frustrating that can be....

It hasn't been confirmed yet, just a rumor.
Wright was a junior who had said already that he got the grade.

Quite a bit of depth back there... my guess is Josh Pinkard moves over to corner, with Will Harris at safety with Taylor Mays... probably see somebody like TJ Bryant have a chance to really step up.

Still hugely disappointing if you ask me, however.

Re: Barkley -- can't wait to see this kid shine. My guess is that Carroll figured there was no better time to start him but behind a fantastic veteran OL. Not sure if the OL will be as good next year.

Anyway, you now have your biggest storyline heading into the Ohio State game.

Shreece is a great player, but its not a killer blow to them. TJ Bryant is just waiting for his moment to shine, and they have decent depth there. Wright was out most of last year and they did fine. Though it would help them if they had him.

My key to the game now is just getting ahead early. Force Barkely to have to make plays in the 2nd half instead of letting their run game take over. Stop the run early and hopefully Pryor can make plays early on.

Josh Pinkard would move over from starting safety to corner. He's a veteran player. Was our best defensive player a few years ago before going down with injuries for a couple years straight. Did well last year when Wright was hurt for the season.

Will Harris will probably inherit the starting spot at safety. He started a few games when Kevin Ellison was hurt last year. Safety is a deep spot, so it doesn't hurt the same way that losing Armstead at DE does. Still, I liked Wright's game.

As far as Barkley goes, I heard that it wasn't a Game one only move by Carroll. On the radio they were even stating how bad this could be for Corp to not even get a chance to play because of how good Barkley is going to be. He's going to end up being the starter for the next 3 years from their expectations. That would force Corp to make a hard decision to stay or transfer. Either way, I feel a little safer playing against Barkley due to the lesser amount of practice and team time that he has had compared to Corp with his 2-3 years being in the program.

Protect Pryor and stop the run and I'm very confident about the Bucks coming out with a W.

I agree with your keys to the game.

Sadly, they are the reasons that I'm not entirely confident. Sure, I think we have a good chance. But with those keys to the game... I wish I were counting on something that I had a better reason to believe we'd do well.

On the other hand, Pryor is the kind of QB that can make something happen even when he doesn't get great protection. And the D-Line just might make the improvements that I'm hoping for. Afterall, Doug Worthington is starting the year quite a bit heavier than he did last year, but just as fast; Gibson looks to have added lean mass...

I'm naturally optimistic... but this year I have to admit that the above really sounds like I'm looking for a reason to be.

An article I read linked by uscripsit, (University Southern California Official Athletic Site) led me to believe that Barkley starting has more to do with Corp being hurt than it does with Matt's play IMHO.

"Aaron has done a marvelous job of getting back from his injury," Carroll said. "By next Saturday, we'd expect him to be ready to play if needed, but he's not ready yet. The competition will continue at this position, but at this point, Barkley is our starting quarterback."

If it wasn't, then why would Pete have named Aaron the starter coming out of spring? How often does a QB get named to a starting role in the spring only to have his job taken? Has to be injury.
That said, I would assume this move is long term.
