Now LA is insulting the 2002 team

My view on QBs is that sometimes they are great, sometimes they are not. The NFL has a bad track record of drafting QBs. This is what I said last year ... "maybe Sanchez will be great, maybe he will not".

While at the gym tonight, I saw at least 18 replays of Sanchez throwing an interception in a preseason Jet's game. I was kind of stunned when the next news item said Sanchez was appointed as the Jet's starter, inheriting Brett's role.

What's my point? It's always possible that the next USC QB will have a bad night against Ohio State. Maybe so, maybe no. I will watch. Sanchez seemed to be able to handle the OSU blitz. I say he played a good game against OSU and grant that he played a good season and grant that he was drafted higher than I was (which is not saying that much). Will USC have another good QB this year?

Changing subjects slightly, I ran across this "semi humorous" article in the LAtimes (to which I assign jocularity rating 3):
Preseason top 25: No. 8 Ohio State -- latimes.com

The author does has at least come up with original insults and avoids the question of whether cows graze on high street or whether the Agriculture department planted test corn inside the Shoe.

If we win, the victory will be sweet.

Will USC cancel practices?

This might help USC prepare for the corn dust cyclones that sometimes hit the Shoe this time of year:

The thick blanket of smoke pouring into the Los Angeles Basin from two brush fires in the Angeles National Forest is expected to linger through the weekend, prompting health warnings and halting some school athletic programs ........ Even though most school districts are not yet in session, officials canceled football and band practice and all other outdoor activities.

Surely that have some sort of indoor facility that they can practice at ala WHAC. If not, maybe they can practice in Snoop Dog's basement. On second thought scratch that. It will be too smokey down there too.

Shelley Smith on ESPN's College Football Live just said that Pete Carroll has named Matt Barkley the starter for USC, that he had just came from the head coach's office after being notified.

She was uncertain if that only meant for the first game.

Honestly I'm shocked by this, I thought for sure Corp would get the job as long as he proved himself to be healthy. It wouldn't make any sense to me to start Barkley for game 1 and Corp for game 2. Corp hasn't played much either so he needs to the reps in a game. The only reason Corp would start game 2 is if he isn't really 100% healthy to play next week or if Barkley just has a horrible game which is doubtful since they're playing San Jose State.
