I remember last year Sanchez had a injury, their RB's always have a couple injuries, Cushing had his fair share of injuries throughout his career, I think Jeff Byers had a injury issue last year, and Rey Maualuga knocked the crap out of Patrick Turner. They always hurt themselves.

Armstead will hurt, but isnt he a DT? I thought Everson Griffen, Malik Jackson, Nick Perry, and Devon Kennard were their DE's?

Armstead is the strong side defensive end, Griffen and Kennard are weakside ends, and Perry was moved to defensive tacke last year.

Losing Armstead was a huge blow. He was the prototypical SDE. They have no one else like him. They will either have to move Nick Perry back to SDE or play Malik Jackson, who was demoted last year for losing gap containment too often.

Armstead is a blow, he was never a prototypical SDE however. He was DT playing SDE because of the depth and experience at DT. Perry has been playing SDE mostly while also moving inside on pass rushing situations. Perry is sitting around 260. Malik Jackson is a WDE, he is still too light and raw for SDE, he could end up there in the future. Also Jackson was never demoted, he was actually given more and more playing time as the season went on, much to the shock of USC fans who felt he would redshirt due to his weight. He is a very natural pass rusher.
You forgot about Wes Horton who is a prototypical SDE. He is currently running with the first team defense, but its hard to know if he stays there.
In my opinion you wont see the real usc defense until we play Ohio State, I feel Pete will try to disguise a lot of the changes he made during the offseason.

Other things could happen with SDE, Griffen who is playing at 280 and has been a terror could go to the strongside. Or tupou could move outside. We wont really know until the big game.

Well after reading reports from camp. I can say without a doubt that the most important battle on the field for this game will be the OSU O-Line vs. the USC D-Line. I know the battle on the lines is always important, but I hope to god we can solidify it.

No he was splitting time. He mostly saw snaps at DT in Nickel situations.

I'm not trying to start an argument here, but I've talked to someone who attends all of USC's practices and writes for a USC site. He said Perry was taking all of his snaps at DT this fall. Maybe he's wrong but it's all I've got to go off of.

Disagree IMO, I think it's the other way around (our D-line vs their O-line).

If our D-line gets manhandled like they did last year--and like USC's stud O-line is capable of-- we will lose. I just can't see a way around it. USC will hand it off, toss it, get 4-6 yards a piece. We'll inch up, they'll play action, it will be a nightmare. Their QB will be comfortable, they'll get in a rhythm, and it will be awful.
Conversely, if our D-line can keep the running game under control, their QB will have to make plays--preferably with Gibson or Heyward in their face. I like our chances there.

On the other hand, with our O-line--if they stink it up, Pryor is mobile enough to greatly negate that. Not all the way, obviously, but a decent amount. If they're beating our tackles, they still have to worry about keeping contain on Pryor. Pryor can roll out, etc.

Not that our line isn't crucial or anything--we still need to establish a run game and we don't want Pryor running for his life all game. I just think that the opposite battle is even more crucial.

University Southern California Official Athletic Site

usc had their offense vs. defense scrimmage this past weekend, the defense apparently dominated. neither barkley or mustain shined and they had six sacks (sound familiar?).

does this seem like it's an indication that although they turned over 9 defensive starters to the draft they have reloaded, or is the program having growing pains due to the new quarterbacks?

is there going to be either a white out or "scarlet fever" like last years penn state game against USC this season?

Nothing showed up on a Yahoo search for this season--there most likely will be, tho'.

Personally, I'm more concerned with the possibility that I'll be turning a little green-ish by the fourth quarter.
Two-week seasons=No fun.
