What is your point? Should we be thinking that the sky is falling because we lost a former o-lineman who didn't get drafted in the NFL draft this year? Every year OSU has linemen that are drafted in the NFL, so I'm not exactly sure why we should be worried.

But Left Tackle is left tackle. I dunno, I would be uneasy about it.
Certainly, any time you have uncertainty at left tackle, it's a cause for some concern, and that's one of the areas where there would be the most tentative concern on the 2009 squad. However, I would say that when you have uncertainty at any position late in the analysis period, it's not necessarily solely because the presumed starter is less than advertised, it can be equally due to the presumed back-up being better than advertised. And the latter is obviously a good thing. Along those lines, I think a large part of the uncertainty at both tackles positions, and probably especially LT, is due to:

1) The staff having had very limited opportunity to see JB Shugarts in action prior to very recently, and
2) Andy Miller developing into a more effective tackle than some people probably expected

I don't mean to suggest that it's all daisies and unicorns, but I'm also not sure that the tackle uncertainty is the unmitigated disappointment that one might ascribe to it at first glance.

OSU will be inconsistent as his replacement has learning pains, but there will be a substantial upgrade in attitude, on and off the field. Many of us are gladly willing to accept that tradeoff.

Ability was never the question with Boone. He'd dominate mid-level opponents, but (for a variety of reasons documented elsewhere) he never lived up to his potential when presented with top-shelf opposition. That sort of thing is really maddening for fans.

There's a USC grad who was recently hired by my company up here in Cleveland. He's about 45 years old and seems like a smart and decent dude. Anyways, he's going down to C-Bus for this game and was asking me where he should go with 5 of his USC buddies to hang out all afternoon.

My basic advice was be careful where you go and what you do. Not to disrespect any USC fans here, but I know for a fact that Lane Avenue will be unlike anything he saw in LA. He said something along the lines of "oh, no one will say anything to us, right?" I laughed. Not that he'll get punched or anything, but I don't think he has any idea what OSU campus will be like that day. He's in for a rude awakening.

USC faces choices as Aaron Corp readies return at quarterback -- latimes.com
Freshman Matt Barkley has taken nearly every first-team snap since Corp hurt his leg Aug. 10, but that situation will change next week if Corp returns to practice as expected.
Corp threw passes in one-on-one drills Wednesday and will participate in a seven-on-seven drill during this morning's workout. He is scheduled to begin running this weekend. If Corp is fit enough to run the Trojans' offense next week, Coach Pete Carroll will have two weeks to decide whether to reinstall Corp as the No. 1 quarterback or stay with Barkley for the Sept. 5 opener against San Jose State.

"This has been a great opportunity for Matt to really take charge and be in control and all that, so we feel good," Carroll said. "If we're going that way and Aaron's not quite back, we'll go into the first game with Matt.

"But I want to get Aaron a real good shot to show that he's the No. 1 guy like he had been when he got hurt."

Carroll refused to be locked into a date that he would have to make a decision.

"I'm just going to wait until I feel it," he said.
O'Dowd optimistic

Center Kristofer O'Dowd hopes that his dislocated right kneecap will be healed in time for the opener, but he is not counting on it.

"I'll be lucky to make it back for San Jose State," said O'Dowd, who suffered the injury during Monday's scrimmage. "But if not, I'll have Ohio State [on Sept. 12] for sure. . . . If I do need that extra week to strengthen it up, then it gives me a good opportunity to do that."

I've seen people from other schools treated pretty well as long as they know to take their shoes off in our house and use their manners. That being said, I've seen some fuck faces from out of town get shit on when they try to act hard.

Anyways, another big loss for USC today with a starting DE/DT breaking his foot: http://www.usctrojans.com/blog/2009/...e-in-foot.html
"Defensive end Armond Armstead broke the fifth metatarsal (outer most bone) in his left foot during practice on Thursday morning and will require surgery. Armstead, a sophomore who has played on the first-unit defensive line during training camp, is expected to be out for six weeks.

His surgery is scheduled for Friday morning."

The vast majority of it is lighthearted ribbing, some swearing/birds, etc. Avoiding the campus areas is also a good idea (high street).

I honestly thought Boone only had one bad game in his career. The games against LSU and USC were pretty darn good for him personally. Especially last year, he looked like the only linemen who belonged on the field.

A rude awakening is right. Lane Ave is a zoo, especially before/after a night game. It's 100% drunk college kids who stopped giving a fuck around 2:00 that afternoon. Even I had to hockey check a drunk Bucks fan onto the sidewalk after the Penn State game last year because he was way out of control. There are a boatload of cops patrolling the area usually but I would still be careful.
