The DL could look like:

1. DE Gibson DT Worthington DT Larimore DE Heyward
2. DE Gibson DT Worthington DT Heyward DE Williams
3. LB Gibson DT Worthington DT Heyward LB Williams

Key backups:
DE Wilson - former starter, lost for year in 07 & and again in 08
DE/DT Rose - plagued by injuries, cleared academic hurdles
DT Denlinger - also plagued by injuries. Considered by many to be OSU's best DT a few years ago.
DT Goebel - most promising young DT.
DE Thomas - lanky rush LB type. Very inexperienced.

The LBs could include:

Spitler, Rolle, Homan, Sabino
- Sabino is the 4th LB currently backing up multiple positions. He could easily be starting week 1.

The DBs could look like:
1. CB Chekwa S Coleman S Russell CB Torrence/Amos
2. CB Chekwa S Coleman S Russell STAR Hines CB Torr/Amos
3. CB Chekwa S Coleman S Johnson STAR Russell CB Torr/Amos
4. CB Chekwa S Coleman S Russell NB Amos CB Torrence

The talent is not an issue...fitting in the system is right now. Too much freelancing that causes unit breakdowns. As soon as Etienne minimizes the mistakes, he will be taking someone's spot.

He's been having some trouble grasping the mental side of the scheme and his fundamental responsibilites in the defense.

His athletic ability is top notch, but he's gotta get his mind right to be a complete player.

We've had great physical specimen's come through with some lacking upstairs (no disrespect) I'd say Jamario O'Neal comes to mind right quick.

Don't forget about Larimore at DT. Another veteran player who's been a non-factor due to injuries, but could be a contributor this season.

A note about our LEO position, it started as a LB who sometimes assumed a rush DE role, most notably by Bobby Carpenter. Now, it's usually a DE who is athletic enough to drop into a LB slot, used mostly in zone blitz situations, dropping the rush DE into coverage, and blitzing a LB/DB.

What kind of numbers do yo expect from Pryor? 2000 passing? 600 rushing?
He went for 122.4 pass, 50.8 rush per game as a starter, which is 1600 pass, 660 rush over a 13 game season.

I think you'll see him in the neighborhood of 2750-3000 total yards, maybe 2200 pass 700 rush. He'd be a 2k/1k+ player at most schools, but he wants to become a complete QB, and OSU can't afford to get him dinged up.

its scary to think of how much young talent we have on both sides of the ball. So deep at defensive end and line backer, with a combination of size and speed. and the o line has so much potential. i just hope they put the right players on the field when usc comes to the shoe!

Any one will be an upgrade at LT IMHO.

While Boone had weaknesses in his game (some more glaring than others), he was a solid player for OSU. While he certainly merits some measure of criticism for his weaknesses on and off the field, let's not allow that to completely overshadow what he did accomplish while he was here.

Who replaces Jenkins?

In one of the few bright moments form the Coliseum, Chekwa made the interception in the end zone at the end of the first half.

Question for USCStephen. You mentioned earlier that USC's O-line and running game will be the strength of the offense, as it was last year. Ore. St. was the only team that had success in that area last year. In your opinion, was there something in OSU's scheme or personnel that gave them an edge, or was it more USC having a bad game (I didn't see the whole game). Do you think that there is anything The Buckeyes can take from that game for this year?

As stated, it's irrelevant now; but I'll point out that Riley annually has a pretty good run defense at Oregon State. To me, it's often a "chip on the shoulder" thing as these kids that play in the trenches have okay ability, but a shitload of attitude. They just play with an emotion that can be overwhelming even to better athletes.

The biggest thing I remember about that game was the unique way that James Rodgers was used on offense. Who'd have thought that such a diminutive player could consistently get kickout blocks for running between guard and tackle. It was truly cool IMO.
