Either Jim Cordle or J.B. Shugarts....if Shugarts is ready for the position then Cordle will likely slide down to guard. That would leave the offensive line as follows:

LT: Adams
LG: Boren
C: Brewster
RG: Cordle
RT: Shugarts

If Shugarts is not ready for the primetime then they'll go with experience and have Cordle at RT and Browning come in and play RG.

Browning is still battling for playing time, He was the biggest weakness on the OL last year IMO, I had every confidence in USC ability to beat him after the first few plays last year.

I'm shocked Adams isn't starting, he was considered better than Tyron Smith who has been flat out great for us. Whats his problem, injuries? weight? He was always a very big tackle.

I don't really know much with Shugarts. Brewster was a beast, when he was in high school. Reminds me of O'Dowd.

Browning is battling for PT at guard. Big difference from tackle.

Adams was injured for much of last year, along with Shugarts. Shugarts was also out this spring, though. Adams is battling Andy Miller, a converted TE, for the LT position. He's the favorite to win the spot.

Jimmy Cordle is the projected starter at RT, but that was determined with Shugarts out. Many hope he can push for the starting job there. If Shugarts won the RT position, Cordle likely slides down to RG (where he played last year) and Browning becomes the utility man.

Right now the starting lineup for SC is: LT Adams/Miller LG Boren OC Brewster RG Browning RT Cordle, with Shugarts pushing for time.

Adams is the unofficial favorite at LT, he's in a dogfight with Andy Miller.

Last year's starting lineup was: LT Boone LG Rehring OC Brewster RG Cordle RT Browning. .... Cordle started at OC in 2007, and was moved to OG by Brewster in 08 after 1-2 games in 08.

I'd imagine RT would go the distance of fall camp in terms of competition, if not into the season. Fortunately the media gets more access this year, so we'll see a few practices, as well as the open practice for the fans.

Interesting. Cordle is moving from Left Guard?
Adams is the favorite at LT?
Any Idea when one player will win out at the position?

Cordle played some center and some guard last year. Most of the year, Steve Rehring was the left guard. Justin Boren is expected to be an enormous upgrade there.

Adams is the most highly rated prospect vying for LT; but Miller has good feet and is pushing hard.

As for when; JT is harder to figure on such things than most. No clue.

Yes, Boren is a potential All-America candidate who couldn't play last year because he transferred in, so he doesn't get a ton of publicity. The LG position is his. Cordle is a good player, most natural at RG. But he can play RT. From what I hear Adams and Miller are in a dead heat right now at the LT spot. This weekend's scrimmage will probably clear that position up along with Shugart's candidacy for RT.

Interesting.
I would find it troubling that your LT spot is so open, maybe open isn't the right word. So unsettled. Would you consider Miller the better pass blocker, while Admas is more physical in the run game?
Why didn't Cordle play RT last year? seems odd to me.
Boren is interesting, altho theres no doubt he benefited that year with MI next to Long. Isn't he an injury concern like O'Dowd?
Also could either Miller or Adams not go to RT and push Cordle into RG? would the not be ideal? Giving you the best 5 possible?

Your guess is probably backwards, Miller is the tougher of the two, while Adams has more natural talent. Both are in a lot better shape this fall... Miller seems to have finally transitioned into a tackle's body (from TE), while Adams has shed a lot of bad weight.

OSU is a lot deeper upfront this fall. Boren was OSU's best lineman, he was just ineligible during his transfer season. Last year Browning & Rehring had no one to challenge them despite some flaws in their game. Same story with Person the year before that.

Adams' nickname during spring was "pass-blocker". Physicality is the only reason, IMO, that Adams hasn't locked down the position already.

His injury is a little less taxing than O'Dowd's.

Miller and Adams are both extremely athletic (Miller is a former TE). I just think that it's taking a little while longer than we expected for the light to click on for Adams. He has a world of talent and potential at his disposal. It is a bit weird I guess that the spot is open, but what else is to be expected after a four year starter departs. I fully expect Adams to take the spot, and think that Shugarts will take the other. Then Miller will be the tackle utility man and Browning will be the guard utility man (with Cordle able to play center as well).

So there's no chance the loser of the LT battle will end up on the right side?? Odd.
Interesting on Adams I figured he would be very physical.
Who is the best run blocker on the team?

IMHO it is still possible that the odd man out at LT ends up on the right.

Best run blocker is Boren, and it's not close.

Boren is the best run blocker.

Coach Tressel has actually said that one of the RT candidates (Shugarts) may actually end up at LT...not the other way around. Crazy, I know.
