What you'll notice in this game is a lot more pressure than OSU generated earlier in the year... even with Texas' quick release passing game, OSU put a lot of heat on Colt.

Hulu - Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (Texas vs. Ohio State)

53:40 - Gibson stop on 4th down.

58:00 - after punt... personal foul but some good pressure.

1:01:00 - pocket rolled away from gibson

............. - next play Gibson pressures Colt into INT, albeit untouched.

1:21:30 - Nathan Williams sighting... lined up over LT., Rush LB.
............. - Followed it up with a good TFL, not a great play.

??????? - I'm missing Thad Gibson's personal foul for smoking McCoy after the play. I think it was in the 3rd, will try to find.

2:04:30 - pressure from 3 sides, veteran steps up calmly/bravely and delivers. Can Barkley do this in his 2nd game?

2:05:35 - Gibson beats the RT around the edge, McCoy steps up and delivers.

I think what you see is this unit is pretty solid as a whole, no one dominates individually on a consistent basis. Rob Rose is another DE/DT hybrid type guy who has been hampered by injuries for years. Like Heyward & Worthington, he gives them a lot of flexibility.

Another setup they've tinkered with is Larimore at NT, Worthington & Heyward as 3-4 ends, and then lining up Gibson, Williams, etc as rush LBs.

This was nate williams last fall:

Cant watch that as I'm currently not in the US
Basically you see a number of players capable of collapsing the pocket... Gibson & Williams as effective speed rushers, not complete DEs though. Heyward, Worthington & Rose were disruptive both inside and outside. They put consistent pressure on him all night, usually didn't get to him until right after the throw or not at all.

McCoy completed a lot of quick, underneath passes, but usually had a hand or body flying at him.

OSU doesn't have a Will Smith or even a Vernon Gholston, but they've got a lot more balanced pass rush than they've had in the last 3 years.

What it all boils down to is that USC is going to expereince a much more disruptive Ohio State d-line than they did last year. The depth and talent of the d-line is building once again after a short lull over the past couple of seasons. The interior d-line play will be improved and the ends are going to be just flat out nasty. Even with and injury or two this is going to be a dangerous unit that should be able to rise to the challenges presented by any o-line in the country. If you can't tell, I am very optimistic about this unit. I will be very surprised if they aren't one of the 5 or so best d-lines in the country.

Lol I hope you had fun rewatching the game Jwins...

I'm really excited to see how the linebacker situation shakes out. Does USC have an idea of their lineup? Or is it going to be LB by committee?

This will be the most likely lineup

WR: Damian Williams (Jr.)
WR: Ronald Johnson (Jr.)
TE: Anthony McCoy (Sr.)
LT: Charles Brown (Sr.)
LG: Jeff Byers (Sr.)
OC: Alex Parsons (Sr.)
RG: Nick Howell (Sr.)
RT: Tyron Smith (So.)

WDE: Everson Griffen (Jr.)
DT: Hebron Fangupo (Jr.)
NT: Jurrell Casey (So.)
SDE: Armond Armstead (So.)
WLB: Malcolm Smith (Jr.)
MLB: Chris Galippo (So.)

So had most usc fans but since corp went down mustain has regained something, people at practice are commenting that he seems to have his confidence back, he has certainly been impressive in the scrimmages and people feel he could manage the game far better than Barkley could. Thats all we are asking for with the projected dominance of the OL and running backs.

I don't know about the game manager thing; I think Corp is your best bet with that. Mustain has always been a gunslinger, and I think Barkley has that same reputation. Plus Corp is not to shabby with his legs.

As a buckeye fan I feel most uncomfortable with Corp as the starter as opposed to Barkley or Mustain.

Id agree but his legs may be gone with the injury we dont really know. The Usc offense is really coming around this fall camp we have three WR's that could be our number 1. Our Tight End is having a similar camp to Fred Davis before his senior season. And McKnight is finally fully healthy.

True, but at Arkansas Mustain had DMC and Felix Jones and decided to wing it on obvious check downs...leading to his benching and all that stuff.

USC's offense is great, no one debates that. It is really going to be down to the trenches. Last year they ate us up on the ground; which is the key to the entire offense. Ohio State has to be successful stopping the run.

Having to play against great wide receivers is something that rarely scares me about another team because alot of things have to click in order for the WRs to shine. Line has to give time, run game has to work so that play action works, secondary has to be playing loose to give the WRs YAC yardage. But it all has a common denominator in the OL/DL battle. For example our game against Penn State last year. They had 3 great wideouts (as they have had for the past 3 years) but they never torched us in the way that USC torched us last year. It's because we would win the battle up front.

I guess that's my long winded and confusing way of saying that as a defense the wide receivers should be the last of your worries.
