A good sign yes, but in all fairness of course generally in a game like this the scout teams aren't really going to compare talent wise to the starting 11 of the other team regardless. I mean if USC had a Terrelle Pryor type player they'd be out there playing for them saturday, and the same goes for us with having guys similar to some of SC's gamebreakers

One factor I think has been overlooked in the talk about homefield advantage is that we'll be less likely to be penalized. In our past three big OOC losses (LSU, USC, Texas,) we've had some players make some crucial errors that have led to personal fouls, and we've had some big calls go against us that have turned the tide of the game, or help push us out of the game. You have to think (hope?) that in the Shoe the refs will be more reluctant to throw their flags, and we'll be more disciplined and not commit stupid personal fouls.

Keep in mind for a second, though, what goes into determining that spread: USC is down at least four (and maybe more) projected starters, is starting a true freshman quarterback in his first road game opposite a defense facing its first real test since losing eight draft picks, and is still a touchdown favorite over a completely healthy bunch of Buckeyes. That is some respect. And disrespect.

Plausible Scenario of the Day. Terrelle Pryor leads an early touchdown drive and a field goal drive before the half to keep pace in a hard-hitting defensive game in which neither teams seems willing to open things up. USC can't find any consistency on offense but holds on to a narrow lead until the middle of the fourth quarter, when a Matt Barkley interception sets up the Buckeyes' go-ahead touchdown, which becomes the game-winner when the Trojans' last gasp drive comes up short.

yep

everyone is projecting that USC wins easily

but if Ohio State wins the excuses will fly, freshman QB bla bla bla

when all we're hearing right now is how he "is no normal freshman" and about "how composed he is", "next Peyton Manning" and what not

I wouldn't even ay that I know he is going to be a star. He could easily go down with a knee or shoulder injury this year or next and never be the same.

This reminds me of when ESPN anointed USC's 2005 team the best ever, then they turned around and lost to Texas for the NC.

Its way to early to say how Barkley will turn out.

Another thing people forget is that USC put a nice little bye week in before last years game. That was pretty big considering tOSU had to fly across country and U$C was resting for 2 weeks.
