From what i could gather they (ESPN) are saying the Buckeyes will have to play a mistake free game in order to beat USC. I just wonder how much can a team learn in one short week, from all there misgivings and mistakes the way Ohio State played against Navy. Maybe i should have used the term Decisions instead of Mistakes. But i have to admit that Navy played us pretty tough for awhile.

So it goes...
Closer the game gets, the more confident I'm getting about this game. I watched last years game again just to see the kinds of things that USC was doing, and you'd think most would come out worried about the game.
The largest mistakes we made I think the Bucks can attend to, and not allow large chunks of yardage, and shortening the game. While Freeman was quick, I have a better feeling about Rolle keeping pace on Havili on that first touchdown for starters.
Our hogs also did not provide the best protection to our quarterbacks in last years game, and they need to have one of two things happen here this year. One (preferred), is to simply be able to give Pryor time to see the field and make good decisions. The second is that when they do get pressure, we have an elusive signalcaller back there that can really make some things happen out of the pocket with his legs, and does. I certainly think Pryor has learned his lesson about knowing where out of bounds and the first down flag allign. I can't think of a play more demoralizing to a defense than a 3 and long, flushing the QB with some good pressure, only to allow a 10 yard run and a first down. I also hope they utilize our tight ends and backs in the passing game to mix it up.
Another observation from last years game was containment on the pitchout to McKimbo-beard-Knight. They absolutely need to contain and limit these, and hack the hell out of the ball anytime he touches it. Force a fumble or two, we're in business.
Other than that, I look for Hines to break loose and make a name for himself, Rolle too. I have this good feeling this is the launching pad ala Texas was for JL back in '06. tOSU always turns the corner after a large departure, and BANG, stars emerge after making some big plays in a big game.
Fuck the haters, this is the Shoe on Saturday night, and silver bullets will be flying.

Too soon old, too late smart
Last year, was one of those Buckeyes fortunate enough to be 'there' in person. Was absolutely animated in the first quarter when OSU was pounding (yes, pounding) USC and got down the field on their vaunted defense. Two TD's, two penalties callin' them back, wind out of the sails, game, set and match to USC at that point. That's with Laurainitis, Malcom, etc.
Biggest change was USC's ability to ADAPT to what OSU was doing, and make the necessary changes. After that, OSU couldn't do squat. USC on the other hand, saw some openings and exploited them - big time.
OSU has the same caliber of athletes on the field as USC - period. Both are elite teams, and what that means sports fans, is that no one is going to get 'out-classed' but will hinge on who gets the breaks, bounce of the ball, rub of the green, etc. And makes the necessary changes to 'fill the gap' because their Olineman can knock our Dlineman - so adapt by putting a LB there, and that sort of stuff. They did, we didn't.
Hopefully we will adapt as better or as well as USC (this is where my beef is with Bollman) to stop what they are doing on both O and D. Because they are darn sure going to adapt to Tress & Co's 'open' playbook. And I do believe we will see "Pryor Unchained" or unleashed. We'll have to go downfield, stretch the D, and for that the O-line will need to be stout. they've got some great rushers (Everson Griffin), and we've got some struggling tackles (you know who they are), so it'll be an interesting match up.

Exactly. It was the lopsided deficit in scheming and personnel scouting that caused last year's fiasco. SC knew which players they wanted to attack, at what time; they seemed to know the capabilities of our players more than ourselves. We need to come up with a scheme and create matchups in personnel to our advantage. It will be interesting to see if the loss of Sarkosian will have any effect in SC's offensive tendencies.

First, I was there too - ugh.
I just have to say that very few seem to point to the glaring fact that USC will ask a freshman to manage a HUGE game in front of 105k VERY loud fans a week after a laugher against San Jose Joke. We, conversely, have the more experienced phenom at QB with some HUGE games under his belt and were recently tested in an ugly one against the #1 rushing team in the universe. When comparing caliber on the field this should be considered heavily. I like your score, I'll ad 2 picks our D (one for Kurt Coleman).

I love the analogy of the '06 Texas game. A pie-eyed frosh wunderkind, Colt McCoy crumbled and we finally found an angle on their talented backs and proceeded to beat them. Why would anyone pick a freshman in the Shoe in week 2?
No matter what happens, I'm proud of our program that has the courage to face the finest competition year after year and face pressure and criticism with grace and pride. Go Bucks!!
