Just listening to radio and apparently Barkley says he has played a game like this in 7th grade...he says, "Bring it on. I'll imagine they are cheering for me. I'm not worried. They'll be tons of people but only 10,000 more than the Coliseum. " I hope to god we can get to him and sack him! Use this to get defense jacked up!

not to get off topic here. but i hate when people get technical with music. yes i could easily play the intro to 7 nation army with one finger. that doesnt mean it doesnt sound awesome. and yes that coheed song would be sick

Ok. Jack White's musical talent is irrelevant, and I respect your personally preferences to music. And you're right, it would sound awesome. For everyone else. Not The Ohio State University, IMO.

I don't think he realizes those won't be cheers he's hearing.

And an FYI to people. Last time I was in the 'Shoe was 2006 for the Penn State game. (Too long IMO) I was told in a very friendly manner by some PSU fans that I was incredibly loud.....so loud I was hurting the couples ears. These fans were incredibly nice. So to oblige, I cupped my hands around my mouth, directed it away from their ears and onto the field.

May every SC fan there complain about how loud we're being.

(I guess I should have told her I could have been way louder, except I had to sing a solo at church the next day LOL)

If your going to tell me that even the thought of 105,000+ individuals, chanting O-H-I-O to the end chorus of "Welcome Home," doesn't give you goosebumps, I will not be able to change your mind. If The Ohio State University and all it's fans could get behind this, it would be absolutely more impressive than most any other stadium chant anywhere. It would be original, it would be proud, and in full throat. If I could do anything for this game, it would be to edit that song and start that chant. That is all.
 Just listened to it and that thought did give me goosebumps.

Just about every major PSU tradition was stolen...

We Are (too many to list), White Outs (again, too many. NHL was one), Seven Nation Army (soccer), Zombie Nation (soccer), Camping Out (Duke's Krzyzewskiville, etc)...
They do have "The Rail."

Barkley might want to consult Braylon Edwards about the crowd noise,

"First and foremost, those Columbus fans, those Buckeyes, they know, they really know how to intimidate a team. Especially the young guys; they're very rowdy, they're very loud and they come out in an abundance. They are crazy from the start of the game on... (actually) the start of the week of the game, when you first come in and you are checking out the stadium you see all these people yelling at you, cussing at you, wearing that scarlet and gray, and they have that scarlet and gray in their eyes. Man this is more than a game, this is more than what I expected.

When the game starts and you run on the field and you hear the boos of 100,000 people... I mean it's crazy. Then Ohio State might get their first big play or touchdown... and man, I've never heard anything as loud as when Maurice Clarett came on the field. Now I know he might not be real high in columbus right now... but I've never heard anything as loud as when he came onto the field when we played in 2002 down at the Shoe and he had that 30 yard play, I've never heard anything that loud in my life. I couldn't hear myself think, I couldn't hear the playcalls, we were kinda guessing. And the last play of the game, when we ran all post routes and it got intercepted, that wasn't even supposed to be the play call. But it was so loud down there, Navarre couldn't hear, gave the wrong play call, and we ran the wrong route. And so it was an easy interception, so that's just an example of how it is down there."

I remember reading Vince Young once said the 'Shoe was the loudest venue he'd ever heard in his life too, or something to that effect, but I don't remember where that article is.

In Retrospect

Looking at this years Ohio State and USC teams and last years teams, what differences are there that would make us think that the outcome will be much different than last years contest?

In many ways, though these are indeed different teams, some things are similar. USC still has strong OL and DL going into the game. They also still have perhaps the most talent and depth at RB than any team in the country. USC's defense is still one of the best in the country, though it will probably not be as good as last years due to key injuries on the DL and in the secondary, along with the fact that they are replacing their LB corp and so there will be a drop in experience, and talent, to a certain extent.

For tOSU there is some improvement along the OL, though we lack the veteran experience at the reciever positions with the departure of the Brians. We may be in better shape at TE and we are definitely in better shape at RB. Last year Beanie didn't play and we basically had a very green Boom Herron. This year, we have both Herron and Saine contributing, and though not as talented or deep as USC, can be effective if given the chance (which was not the case last year as we kinda abandoned the running game early on).

On defense our DL is much improved in talent and depth. One surprise may be the play of Simon and Goebel who mysteriously didn't play against Navy (at least to my recollection). Was Tress and Heacock trying to keep USC from scouting these guys play so that they will bring an added surprise of speed, strength and quickness to Saturday's game? I REALLY hope so!!

Our LB crew is basically the same as USC's, a new group with the exception of Homan, but not yet as talented or mature as the previous LB corp. Was Sabino (I don't recall seeing him play either) also held out of the Navy game to bring an added surprise Saturday against the Trojans? I REALLY hope so.

The biggest difference, of course, revolves around the QB position. And this, in my mind is the most important and strategic difference that exists from this years game and last years game. USC is playing a true Freshman with one game under his belt. Though a very talented player, is he ready for the Shoe and 105,000+ fans, at night, and the blitz packages Heacock is going to be throwing at him? To counter this, I look for PC to play it safe and give Barkley very short to intermediate passes throughout the game, and let his skill players do the rest. Which they are very capable of doing.

However, USC will be facing a much different Terrell Pryor this year. He now has a full season under his belt and is familiar with tOSU offensive system. This, to me, is the key to the game. Just like Mark Sanchez was the key difference maker in last years game, TP can play that role in this years game. He will be facing a great defense, but one that is not as good as last years. IF TP is decisive throwing the ball and IF he will tuck it under and take off when there is open field in front of him, it could pose problems for the agreesive USC defense.

Here's hoping for a great showing by our players in scarlet and gray. With a few breaks here and there, we might just pull off an upset and create a watershed moment for our team, leading us to an undefeated season.

I like what you're doing in this post... But... before BP starts to look like scout's message boards, can we try to keep USC thoughts in the USC (pre game time) thread? I'm not a mod, so feel free to overrule the sh** out of me, but some of the reasons BP is so great are because its uncluttered, and you can find all related posts in one place.

I seriously doubt JT was holding back Sabino, Simon, and Goebel to "surprise" Petey.

Sabino was probably held out of the navy game because he isn't the most disciplined LB at this point in his career.

Yes, we're getting off on a tangent a bit. Oh8ch was allowed a little leeway, since:

a) he turns in epic columns (in their own threads) each week
b) his recent thread was more of a 'RAWRRRR BUCKEYES!!!1!!11!" topic than a game discussion

but we keep everything organized around here.

YES, YES, YES, YES...

I can guarantee that I will be doing my part to make it loud...

If we could just get BB and the Greatest Generation crowd to turn off their hearing aids and stop sitting on their hands.

Do you see 'Bino getting some meaningful snaps this weekend? I'd think that with Rojo out USC will have more 2 WR power sets, meaning that we wouldn't necessarily have to be in nickel all the time. I can see Sabino being the rotating linebacker when the ones in front of him are tired.
