:slappy: Gotta love stat references from 70 point spread matchups...
Why, how many carries are bradford & tyler getting? Do we get to start counting RB depth for teams that are redshirting players?
I'd settle for you attempting to show how Tyler & Bradford are worthy of this untouchable designation you are giving them... something besides recruiting stars and them being really good. Shouldn't they have to actually put up decent backup numbers before declaring their greatness?

Is proximity to other greatness enough?

Since they have limited carries obviously the stats hurt, but here is highlight film on the guys who havent gotten as much publicity:

Tyler
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhHQhBTlJDk]YouTube - USC RB #26 Marc Tyler Highlights 2008[/ame]

Bradford
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZA734ty1qk]YouTube - USC RB #21 Allen Bradford Highlights 2008[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fq6LZcx1NaY]YouTube - Allen Bradford[/ame]

Their film isnt mindblowing, but you see the potential. I think....

Here is some film on the other guys:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9x054cveR4]YouTube - USC RB #4 Joe McKnight Highlights 2008[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDDWx-2P0R0]YouTube - USC RB #13 Stafon Johnson Highlights 2008[/ame]
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFRKpTnnKH8]YouTube - USC RB #2 CJ Gable Highlights 2008[/ame]

I honestly didnt want this to turn into a 3 page arguement. I really dont care that much about who has the best stable of backs ever to be honest.

So, any thoughts on what our ranking will be entering this game?

Im thinking 8th or 9th. Obviously OU drops as does Va Tech. Bama will enter the top 4 somewhere, PSU will likely leapfrog us along with OkSt. The rest Im not too sure about.

Gable has started more games than the other two have in the past. When healthy Gable has started more games, and usually gotten more touches. Tyler has looked fantastic in mop up duty and will probably prove himself when the rest leave. Bradford hasnt had the best career, but he is a pretty good short yardage back and maybe he will step it up this year.
What does mop up duty vs. weak defenses prove? "maybe will step it up this year"? How does that help your argument or our assetion that your building your entire argument on hype?

2. They did, but they have also proven themselves on this level. Only McNeal and Shoemate havent proven themselves, and maybe Bradford but I like his potential. Gable, Johnson, McKnight, and Tyler have all proven to me that they were not only 5 star prospects in high school, but also very productive college players who could start at 90% of the schools in the country.
Only Johnson (somehat) and McKnight (at times) have proven themselves on this level.
3. No they arent hall of famers, or even heisman candidates. They are 1,000 yard backs for sure though if they got their carries. They are extremely talented, and will get their shot in the NFL.
Again, you're basing this on hype. How can you say Bradford or Tyler or Gable would get 1,000 yards? I've seen a lot of Gable and I've never been wowed.

Hell if you want to argue with me then say something like Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray both had 1,000 yards by themselves last season. That would be a good way to shove a knife in my arguement.
I specifically mentioned production.

I just honestly think after watching these guys soo much the past couple of seasons and hearing what I hear from SC fans that they have talent-wise around 5 backs who could start nearly anywhere in the country, and rush for 1,000 yards. To me that is special
So you take their fans word for it? I've seen at least 10-12 games the past couple years and McKnight is the only back that has wowed me. S. Johnson is good and would surely get his 1,000 yards, but he's not special IMO. I've seen nothing from Gable, Bradford or Tyler that tells me they would start at most good-elite programs.

They aren't huting for depth and are very talented, I just don't get the "best ever" stance other than that they were highly recruited.

Notre Dame has a very deep stable of highly recruited backs too ya know?

Whatever. I dont care anymore lol. Im wrong and you all are right. USC has only two good RB's and the rest are just highly touted high school players who ride the coat tails of McKnight and Johnson. Gable, Bradford, and Tyler havent proved anything worth mentioning on this level. Havili is a nice fullback, and McNeal/Shoemate shouldnt even be mentioned because they havent played a snap.

I'm wrong, and better backfields would be:
Miami 2001
Nebraska 1995
Ohio State 1975
Arkansas 2007
Auburn 2003
Nebraska 1983
USC 1979
Army 1945

Oh good, that's MUCH better than actually backing up your claim that Tyler would start for most of america. :roll2:

I happen to think the kid is good, but that's a ridiculous claim until he actually proves it on a consistent basis. Or until Bradford goes over 100 yards in a single season for the first time.

To try to get this back to the game, would anybody else much prefer seeing Hines on the field a large majority of the time vice Russell. Simply put, Russell is a liability in pass coverage. He takes bad angles and doesn't seem to commit to the ball or reciever when he's thrown at. That could be a major undoing next week just like it was in the Fiesta Bowl. The OL worries me, Russell terrifies me.

I posted the video with some of his highlights from last year? That was my support for him. I didnt really feel like going into stats considering that his stats arent that exciting.

Bradford, I just think is a good short yardage back. Physically I think he is a more gifted "big back" than LenDale White. No way he could match LenDale's production, but I do think he could have been a very productive back with more oppurtunities. He's big, fast, seems to have good vision, and can catch the ball out of the backfield.

Tyler has the best pro measurables out of the USC bunch and I think will have the best pro career out of all the current USC backs, He will get his oppurtunties either next year or the year after. He will start for one to two years at SC.

I don't like the pro potential of the SC backs that much besides Tyler. McKnight will suffer just like every other back like him. Stafon, I just don't see him becoming a starting back in the NFL. Gable I think will find his niche. He can block well, catch well, and run well. I could see him being the type of back that a good team wants as their Number 2 or possibly starter. I like Tyler as a pro prospect because I think he has the size to run up the middle, and the speed to make people miss and get seperation. He is a very prototypical NFL back, and so far in college he has looked good. I like his potential in the future compared to the others.

Simply put: Ohio State is in trouble next week.

I'm willing to give the D the benefit of the doubt against the triple option, but they were beaten pretty routinely by simple passes in man coverage. Anderson Russell simply shouldn't be out there next week if it can be helped. If he's the best option then so be it but he is going to be severely tested next week. I'm not nearly as concerned with the defense as I am with the offense.

The offensive line looks exactly the same as it did last season. They get zero push and just do not change the line of scrimmage the way that a decent offensive line should. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around the O line should have been having its way with the undersized Navy D line. As it turns out, the Navy D line was able to completely stack up a 4th and 1 attempt late in the game. It should not matter that everyone in the stadium knew what the play call was. There was no running game to speak of and Terrelle looks like he's become a better passer, but is not where he needs to be. He's going to get there by the end of the season though. If USC contains Terrelle Pryor then the game is over by half time. There isn't another option as far as a running game IMO.

Duron Carter is going to be special as is Devier Posey. Love the throws to the TE. Jake Ballard might be the most under rated weapon on this team.

The Trojans beat SJSU the way that an elite team beats an inferior opponent. They got Barkley some valuable experience and, more importantly, some much needed confidence coming into the Shoe. The Navy tape will give Barkley (and the rest of the Trojans) even more confidence going into next week.

USC comes swaggering into this game while Ohio State comes limping in (again).
