Sound Off !!! - Introduce Yourself

introduction

This might be the wrong place to introduce myself and, if so, please accept my apologies.

A tOSU friend of mine from bucknuts, OSUgrad21, has indicated that I might enjoy participating in this forum.

As you can tell by my name I am not a buckeye fan, but I respect your program and your school, as grad21 may confirm by my numerous visits to the other board.

I am not a flamer or a troll, but you may call me anything you want because, after all, this is your board.

Thank you for your hospitality and I look forward to some invigorating football discussions.

I assume USC = University of Southern California. If you are the poster I'm thinking of I have enjoyed your posts in the past. While there is still some bitterness towards USC ("Pete's #1 guy") In time you should get along fine with most of the locals.

USCemper...welcome.

Guess I should have done an introduction myself when I told you about the site...so my apologies.

For the gang around here, next to Clarity, USCemper is probably the most articulate poster I have encountered in my message board wanderings. Although he may be a USC fan, his knowledge and love of college football is obvious. I have enjoyed many long discussions, debates, and program history exchanges with Angelo.

Welcome aboard

Thank you gentlemen for your welcome and thank you Matt, as always.
I do recognize all of your names from bucknuts and I will attempt to be as informative and unbiased as possible whenever the oppotunity will present itself.

Yes, is that USC from the West coast, but like OSUgrad21 kindly observed I am also a fan of the college game.

I understand some of the animosity generated by the most recent recruiting "war". Such unfortunate situation was exaggerated on bucknuts by the flames of very young USC posters who forgot the atrocious years we suffered under the Smith and Hackett regimes.

Because I am a newbee, I will just read your posts to begin with, unless you need to know some news from the west coast.

Again, thank you for the hospitality.

Just don't be an idiot and your good with me.

Come on Killer, he already said he was from USC! :)

I gotta a question for you. The perception in OSU circles is that Carrol is telling recruits whatever they want to hear to get them to sign up, and pushing kids away if they get too full at a position. In other words, not playing the recruiting game with the utmost integrity. That perception seems to be shared by a few other programs (or at least some posters who support other programs.) Players themselves have made some unflattering comments and more than one have quoted PC as saying told them they were his 'number one guy' at a position.

Is this just sour grapes from a jealous football world where we all wish we could have a great program AND warm weather? Is Carrol the epitome of recruiting integrity and we just can't see it?

When OSU pulled a schollie from a Florida kid last year they took a lot of heat and a lot of questions were asked by the OSU fan base. The administration publicly stated their concern as well. Jim Tressel is seen here as pure class, but when his staff pulled a stunt that was questionable people called him on it.

What is the scoop on PC?

DiHard:

Personally, I am not a big fan of the elitist and arrogant BCS/ABC partnership. It is obviously heavily weighted towards money with football implications a secondary issue. Nevertheless, if those are the accepted yet ridiculous and flawed rules, then everybody should follow them.

However, if the BCS must be the way of the land, I would prefer that these clowns pay more attention to away wins and margin of victory, perhaps with a 21 point cap.

The vast majority of PAC10 schools and fans, as identified on their respective insiders and rivals boards, are traditionalists who favor the BIG10-PAC10 match-ups in the RB, as I do.

I would have liked to have had a shot at LSU, especially after the loss of OU in their CG with Kansas State, but the RB victory over (what do you call them?) was very gratifying.

By the way, congratulations on the amount of players you guys sent to the NFL.

USCemper - Welcome aboard! I haven't seen much of you lately as my time on Bucknuts has decreased since finding my way over here. (I too owe OSUgrad21 thanks for that:)). I have enjoyed your posts in the past and look forward to what you can bring to this community.

buckiprof: Hey buddy, it is nice to see you here as well.

Oh8ch: Regarding the "#1 guy" situation regarding Pete Carroll, I only have these observations to make. If you go to the Owen Field board at OU they believe that Stoops should have the part to the sequel of The Passion of the Christ. If you travel to the LSU board, their fans believe that Saban has miraculous powers second only to those of Father Pius, and so on. Whichever site you visit, provided that it is a winning program, the football coach is revered, idolized and protected. In other words, we all love our guy, right?

I personally believe that Pete Carroll is a human being, a man if you will, who also happens to be the coach of the USC football team. I don't know whether is more or less ethical and judicious than other men.

I met him, briefly, after the end of the spring football game just a couple of weeks ago. He was very cordial, well-spoken and appeared to enjoy being around fans.

Did he say to some players that they were his #1 guy at their position? did he over-sell the program to some recruits? I honestly don't know, but I seriously doubted. Remember, these accusations have been made by guys who eventually elected to attend other schools. The two scholies that were rescinded included a guy who was accused of selling drugs and a LB/FB who kept enjuries from the school application. All his players swear by him. Everybody that is close to the program, including the snakes who report for the LA Times, have found absolutely nothing detrimental or controversial to report on this guy and if there were skeletons in the closet, they wouldn't remain there for a long time in LA. On his third and a half year on the job, he has had no defections from scholarship athletes he recruited other than a couple of walk-ons who wouldn't have made the team anyway. He has red-shirted players who were ranked inside the top 10 (#1 guys) in the country at their positions and no one has complained.

However, I confess that if he told Ginn that he was the #1 guy at his position, he only told the truth because we don't have any DBs the caliber of Teddy on our team. I don't want to write a novel about Pete, but you asked me the question.

Finally, I think that Carroll has re-established and rivitalized a moribund and embarrassing football program, winning 1/2 of a NC with 3 starting Olinemen of which only one was drafted, three oversized safeties playing LBs, two suspect DBs and a questionable kicker. He was a modest NFL coach but he appears to be a very good CF coach. He is no better than Tressel, Saban, Richt, Stoops and others. He just plays a different type of football that is more condusive and palatable to the Los Angeles clientele.

Sorry for the very long post.
