Sound Off !!! - Introduce Yourself

Just a bit tardy posting in this thread... seemed appropriate seeing as I had a chance to do some catching-up today.

I didn't grow up with any ties to Ohio or any particular fondness for football, so my path here is probably a bit unusual. Just so happened that the person with whom I worked most closely at my last job was a huge Buckeye fan. We worked looooong hours, and so he had a captive audience for his incessant Buckeye this, Buckeye that, Buckeyes, Buckeyes, Buckeyes. I didn't really get it, but was happy to see my friend so enthused, and so just sort of smiled and nodded and occasionally asked whether running for 100 yards in a game was a good thing or a bad thing. I was forced at gunpoint (no wait, that was later) to watch Rivals recruiting vids, especially one where D'Andrea crushed two guys simultaneously. I knew a bunch of 40 times; I just didn't know why.

Anyway, the pace of this Buckeye bombardment picked up in the third year, where things were apparently going pretty well for the Buckeyes, what with being undefeated and all. (I'm fairly certain I knew this was a good thing.) My friend mentioned that the Michigan game was going to be on ABC, so I decided to check it out while I did a little cleaning. Much to my surprise, I wound up standing in front of the TV the entire game and cheering for all these guys I knew by name playing the most exciting game I'd ever seen. During the NC game, I literally shredded the chenille blanket I was bundled in at the start of the game, and I thought I was going to have a heart attack... how the rest of you made it through the game is a total mystery.

After the game, I hopped on BN and enjoyed watching everyone celebrate, and quickly became hooked. You should have seen the expression on my friend's face the first time he mentioned a recruit and I said without thinking about it, "Actually, his grades are supposed to be in shape and he just set his visit, so things are looking good." Pretty hilarious. It became a running joke that this whole Buckeye obsession is his fault. Of course, now a bunch of you enablers share the blame. Thanks... and Go Bucks!

I'm quite late as well...

I'm 23 and have lived in CBus all my life, though I'll be in Baltimore come August of '06

I've been a regular in attendance of our mens basketball team for the past 17 years and football for about 12 years.

I'll keep it short and sweet, but my allegiance is definitely to tOSU being a student here and most importantly, to our basketball buckeyes. In Thad we trust!

Well, my story is a bit different...

Coming from Cleveland Heights, my father was a big OSU fan. He was one, however, who would always turn off the TV when OSU would start to go bad. most of the time, it worked... he turned off the TV, they lost. However, back in the '97 Rose Bowl, I went up to his bedroom, turned on the second TV, and managed to get him to watch Germaine's miracle drive. It's also where I first saw the marching band perform.

My love of tOSU goes deep, as I will be recieving my second (MS) degree here this spring. I ahve a passion for nearly all OSU sports- football, men's basketball, hockey, women's volleyball, etc... as long as there's a band performance. I'm a 5-year member of the basketball band, as well as a former member of TBDBITL.

To tell the truth about the family, the finest gift that I ever gave my father was a ticket to the 2004 Michigan game where Troy came out and stomped on those effers from up North. Sure, it was in D-Deck. Sure, he never attended OSU, even though he was always a giant fan in my life. However, that was one of the first OSU games he had made it down to (maybe his 2nd or 3rd), so it was a treat.

My finest memory of my collegiate career, however, will be this past fall... where the OSUMB rushed the field after the end of the Michigan game in Ann Arbor, and played Carmen to the players no less then five feet away. Years and years of childhood agony were absolved in one run on the field in that giant toilet bowl.

If you're ever at a basketball game, I'm probably there. I'm the loud trumpet player playing the solos. I also get a free trip to the men's tournament this year... both Big Ten and NCAA. That will be a blast.

Now that I'm done reminiscing, time to get onto reading more random things...

Like a few on this board, I grew up a Navy brat.

Like OSUSuchiChick I was born in Agana, Guam. Suchi, what years did you live there?

Like Mili I became a Buckeye Fan in 1968 between the ages of 10- 11.

My favorite Buckeye: Archie

My most memorable game: 2002 Fiesta Bowl

I have lived on both coasts but mostly in Calif. Presently I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have been in full-time ministry for about the past 25 yrs. Mostly as a pastor but presently I am working as a teacher and consultant to churches. Looking to get back in the pastorate though.

This July I will have been married for 25 yrs. No kids, though Mt. Moriah, our 12 year old Siberian Husky/German Shepherd mix would probably take issue with that. :)

I've never seen the Bucks play in Columbus, but did go to the Bowl game about 10 yrs ago against Fresno St and also the game against UCLA a few years back. I'm a die hard fan and bleed scarletngray. GO BUCKS!

First time I've actually read this - I am a regular lurker, but a sporadic poster. I too am a military kid - born in Riverside CA, lived in Colorado & Texas before landing in the Dayton Ohio area for most of my childhood years. Went to tOSU for Engineering in 1990 - graduated a mere 6 years later. I guess that's when my love for the Buckeyes really began. I had always been a bigger Bengals fan growing up, but since that first game in the shoe (vs. USC - pouring down rain...Coop called the game early), I have been totally hooked. I now reside outside of Cincinnati (after a brief stint in hel....errrr.... MI), and actually follow things much more closely since moving out of C-Bus. In C-Bus, it's all Buckeyes, all the time, but for out of towners, this site is like a lifeline. I have really enjoyed the insight & the "groundedness" this site provides relative to other sites.

I was at that game. I was in the lower South stands and had to endure a Todd Marijuanavich TD & then him taunting the student section...what an ass. :mad1: I wish some half-inebriated, less in-control of his emotions than I, student would have jumped on the field and decked him.

Anyway...My name is Patrick. My BP name comes from the Irish form of my name, which is what my uncles have always called me growing up. (yes my family is very Irish and one that is split nearly down the middle for their affections between tOSU & ND. I have several Uncles and Cousins who despise Ohio State...It made this latest Fiesta Bowl win that much more gratifying to me for that reason)

I live in Sidney, OH, which is about a 30 minute drive North of Dayton.

I've been a Buckeye fan all of my 34 years of life partially because I have an Uncle who works in the Athletic Department, but mostly because my Dad has loved the Buckeyes his whole life.

I have a beautiful wife who thinks I'm an obsessed "nut", but is happy that my only real obsession in life is for a sport and a team rather thanstrip clubs, partying, or gambling (though I do enjoy an occasional night out with the boys playing Texas Hold em and a Crown & Coke or two). And I have two kids, a 7 year old boy (who is just starting to put OSU sports close to the same level as Spiderman and Power Rangers, thank God) and a 7 month old girl (who just loves the colors of all "the Red Guys" in Daddy's pictures on the walls).

I went to tOSU for one year before transfering to a smaller school, and was "lucky" enough to work for the Football and Basketball Team's training table when it was held inbetween the Towers (I fed Jimmy Jackson, Mark Baker, Robert Smith, Alonzo Spellman to name a few  ). And my older Bro. (who attended for 4 years) was a Manager for the Basketball team from '89 - '92 I think...all adding to my affiliation & love of the Buckeyes.

I now am anxiously awaiting the start of the 2006 Football Season so that I may begin my 4th year of Ushering at the 'Shoe  . (and even more anxiously await the 2009 season so that hopefully I can get that bad taste out of my mouth from the last OSU / USC game I experienced so many years ago :sneaky: ) :osu4:

It has been brought to my attention that I neglected to sound off upon my arrival here… glad to see I wasn't the only one who was late to this party… so…

Hi, I'm Peach… I grew up the Mushroom Kingdom, where I spent most of my life in the palace, until I caught the eye of Bowser, the Koopa King. He kidnapped me, and for the next several years, he whisked me around from castle to castle – always moving me just before the frustrated Mario arrived to save me… Mario and his brother Luigi did eventually find me, though, and I spent some time with them (plumbers, you know… :wink2: ), before getting kidnapped by Bowser again and starting the whole damn process over… we went through that five or six times before I tired of the damsel in distress role and learned to kick ass for myself.

Since then, I've gotten involved in tennis, basketball, baseball, golf and kart driving. I also play dozens of pointless little games in my never-ending quest to collect stars for no particular reason. You can usually find me hanging out at my new and improved castle or on my tennis court at the Peach Dome.
<O:p
No, really…<O:p</O:p

Ok – I actually grew up in Mentor, Ohio. Went to tOSU and got stuck in Columbus, though I did run away to Germany for a year in there somewhere… dabbled around in a couple majors before graduating with a degree in German. I now work as a paralegal and am sort of considering law school… though I may also ditch all of that and become a teacher or something. (Maybe someday I'll figure out what I want to do when I grow up… :) Running away to Germany again is probably the most appealing option at the moment.)

I grew up with two older brothers and a sports-fan dad, so I've always loved watching sports of just about any type, and I'm a long-suffering, perpetually frustrated fan of all things Cleveland. I always sort of followed tOSU football, but I didn't really get into it until I got down here, at which point I became hooked.
<O:p
If I had to pick two things I couldn't live without, they'd be my piano and my tennis racquet. Oh, make it four and add paint chips and wine...

Edit - spelling nazi self-check...

Well, I joined BP early last year, at the invitation of osugrad21, and did a little bit of posting then, not much, but really haven't spent much time here since then. Most of my posting is on Bucknuts, where my username is drnlaw, and other boards in the Scout.com system, mostly Michigan, Texas, Iowa, and Penn State. JWinslow, whom I've gotten to know as crazybuckfan40 on the Michigan board, has been badgering me to come over here and get to know the place a little better, so you'll know who to blame...

I live in Toledo with my wife, my lovely 20-year-old daughter, and my cat, and have been a Bucks fan since the mid-to-late 60s. I'm a lawyer, but it wouldn't be nice to hold that against me. I'm a Navy veteran (FBM submarines), much prefer Diet Coke to beer, and the only thing I prefer to listen to more than opera is any Ohio State fight song played by TBDBITL -preferably immediately following a touchdown against Michigan. I'm a University of Maryland and Georgetown Law Center graduate. I'm lucky to get to one game a year, but last year's one game was our victory over Michigan in Ann Arbor -- not a bad way at all to spend a Saturday afternoon.

glad to see you made it over here... (for the sake of the board) cbf40 is actually his own entity, but his username sometimes stays logged in on this machine and so my voyages to the dark side of the scout system (GBW) are under that name.
