Sound Off !!! - Introduce Yourself

Good post NY. I have to say everytime I see an alumni talk about how much they love Ohio State it makes me think "I can't wait until I can say I'm an alumni." I'm only a freshman at OSU so I still got a while to go...but sounds like the life after OSU can be just as good as while I'm here as long as you keep the pride. Looks like you did. Go Bucks!!

I grew up in Columbus and Worthington. However, I've lived in the Cleveland area since college, which now means Shaker Hts (was in Hudson and Cuyahoga Falls too). It's been very interesting living in Columbus and Cleveland for around the same amount of time.

1. First, Cleveland is a big football town. No doubt, we love the Browns up here and hate the Steelers, Bengals, Ravens, Broncos, Raiders, whoever....
2. That being said, it doesn't come anywhere near Columbus. I have some friends who have been Cleveland-ites their entire lives, and take great offense to being told their town isn't as passionate about football as c-bus. They think they're in-touch with reality, but the truth of the matter is they're clueless. I took one of these guys to the 98 Michigan game, and he hasn't argued with me since (he hasn't been man enough to admit he was wrong, but it's a start).
3. Cleveland hates "losing" to Columbus. Sure, there were plenty of parties on Jan 3rd, 2003, but there was a hint of jealousy. No question. It's like watching your best friend get a promotion.

Anyways, growing up in Columbus, I went to 2 Buckeye home games in the 70s, 60 in the 80s (that's right, I went to EVERY home game in the entire decade), and a couple dozen since then.

Bottom line, I think it's impossible to grow up in Columbus and NOT be a Buckeyes fan. It is possible to grow up in Cleveland and not give a rat's ass about the Browns.

OHIOSTATE=LIFE, Don't wish your college experience away. Recognize and utilize all that the OSU has to offer you as a student. You have access to some of the best facilities in the world. First, and formost, get that degree that will be your financial ticket to life. And have FUN !!! No other time in your life will be like your college years. Not that life sucks after you are out of school. No, no,it's just different. You have almost endless opportunities right now, go for it. The Buckeye Family has some great traditions, and you will learn why the OSU alumni are so damn proud of their school and their BUCKEYES !

Originally from Ohio but went to college out of state( Wisc. & Morehead St.). Former H.S. FB star,recruited,injured/washed up. Was a teacher & H.S. HFC and knew Woody. He let me bring my teams for free to the Shoe for games. Great guy. Fan since the 50's. Coached both public & parochial H.S. schools.

After Master's degree from Xavier, went into private business for serious money and ended up in the Youngstown/ Warren area . Also a YSU fan.

Now retired, college FB is one of my biggest enjoyments.

Welcome aboard, paladin1aa. We need some more old farts with lifelong histories as Buckeye fans. I'm not there yet, myself, I'm just thinking about retirement, but have a few more years to go.

Where did you coach? My dad was a long-time coach at Columbus North High School (now closed). Wondering if you might know him.

BTW, it doesn't show from your brief bio, but I hope your handle (paladin1aa) is not a reference to the Furman Paladins. I'm at Appalachian State and they are among our main rivals. We used to have a saying, back when Marshall was in the Southern Conference, that "Marshall sucks, but Furman swallows."

Hineybuck -- the handle comes from the old TV show called "Have Gun,Will Travel" starring Richard Boone as a dapper gunslinger for hire based out of San Francisco.

He passed out business cards that read -- Paladin ( His name), Have Gun,Will Travel, Wire San Francisco. He used a Chess piece (Knight's head --- the horse) on his card.

Historically, Paladins were the champions (Knights) of Charlemagne's court or (dictionary) any "noble champion".

In business, I was a "trouble-shooter", hence the name.

I'm new on this board. I'm a freshmen at Ohio State University. I love it so much here, there is so much to do, and so many people to meet, plus they play football on Saturdays. I went to every home game last season, and went to NU, Purdue, and Mich St. I BLEED scarlet and gray. Next year I will be at every game. I have free season tickets because I am an athletic host, so basically I get to talk to all the recruits about the University and stuff on gamedays and the spring game a couple of weeks ago. Ohio State is truly a special place from the Oval to the Shoe, plus theres a whole bunch of crazy parties here too.

Go Bucks!

maize in scarlet country

I am brand new to Buckeye Planet and enjoying talking Big Ten smack especially with Buckeyes. Of course I bleed maize and blue but also have a lot of respect for Ohio State. I hail from Michigan but live now in Hawaii. I am fortunate enough to share the same work space with a Buckeye...you all may know him: mililanibuckeye. I look forward to talking with you all.

Mili: "UMBoyeee is the guy I told you all about in the "A New Take On THE Rivalry" thread. Pulled for Ohio State in the Alamo Bowl. Not a bad guy for a Michigan fan..."

A scUM fan that lives in Hawaii? Can we call this guy the anti-Mili? Bizarro Mili? Reverse Mili?

A little late but I'll sound off. I'm 33, married with two children in Tucson Arizona. I was weaned on SEC football while my mom was getting her PhD in Auburn. We moved to Upper Arlington so she could be an associate professor at OSU before I was to indoctrinated in the SEC way. I still eat grits every, watch the Iron bowl and every now and then say ya'll but I have been a Buckeye from kindergarden through college. I graduated from OSU with a Degree in Physics and now live in Tucson, AZ. Now that I am out west I enjoy hiking, climbing, caving, mountain biking, ultimate frisbee, disc golf and basically anything to get out of the lab and go outdoors. Ohio State football is a tie that reminds me of home and my childhood.

With that sorry excuse for a segway, I'll tell ya'll about my childhood. After I moved out my parents left U of A to move to the country (Richwood). I thought they were having a Green Acres moment until I realized that my childhood was the Beverly Hillbillies. For those of you that like obscure internet searches I told you three things about my mother: "ohio state",professor,richwood... I never really fit in anywhere outside of the physics department. I was a bit nerdy in school and to cool for the engineers I hang around now.

Mili,
Is he the same guy that let you crash at his place, drink his beer and drive his car during the holidays?

Either way, welcome. It's nice to have opposing fans to talk to/debate.

Did you fill him in on the 'goat boy' ?
