SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

I see this comment all the time from lots of folks who post. I have the notion that they are also the same folks who look at any given team - this year Washington, Clemson, aTm, - that threatened OSU's spot in the top five/playoff rankings and said, "They haven't played anybody, their schedule is weak," etc, etc. They are also the same folks who justify the Bucks being in the playoffs, "because we beat Okie, Wiscy, and Michigan, while Washington played OOC cupcakes and got their ass handed to them by USC," or "Clemson? Who'd they play OOC, and the rest of the ACC was Kibbles."

The Bucks either need SOS or they don't, you can't have it both ways, especially if you don't get into your CCG.

They, along with the rest of the B1G were on the seat of their ass and a national laughing stock from 2007-2014. During that same period OSU played for 2 NC's in that time and won 1. The brand was never stronger.

That is a unequivocal data point, not an opinion. OSU needs to win it's big OOC games, that's it. They control their own destiny when they do that.

If the B1G is good it only makes going undefeated harder. There is no marginal utility in a strong B1G for OSU. It's pure risk.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

OSU made the playoffs in 2014, rendering any argument that OSU needs a strong conference utter bull[Mark May].

Edit: oops, I missed the next page of responses... what jaxbuck said.

We need a strong conference. We don't necessarily need a strong UM. If Wiscy and either Corn or Iowa along with 2 of UM/MSU/Ped are strong that's great. Personally, I would rather see Michigan good than the pedsters.

As for not needing a strong conference, we barely got in in 2014--we needed the Big 12 to get cute and not declare a champion hoping to get two in AND 59-0. We very easily could have been left out. And you can look at Oklahoma this year being steadily behind the 2-loss Big Ten teams and having no chance to move up because their conference was a dumpster fire with no chance for any signature wins after their early OOC stumbles. I'd add that we're in over the BTC precisely because the conference was strong this year, and we had the opportunity for multiple signature wins in it. If Wiscy, Corn and UM are all crap, the committee takes the winner of the championship game.

The B1G didn't suck in 2014-2015, though.

If Ohio State wins all of its games they are in the playoffs every single time no matter what.

If Ohio State drops some games, other factors become more important.

I say Ohio State should just win all its games and then we don't need to worry about it.

Yes. However, since 1980, Ohio State has won all of their regular season games only three times. A strong conference allows Ohio State to get into the playoffs with a loss (maybe even 2) over other conference champs. A weak conference requires everything to go right all season. The Big 12 is a dumpster fire, and they've missed the playoffs two of the first three years and would be 0-3 had Stanford won one more game last year.

If that were the case, then psu would be in over washington because the PAC 12 is crap, and their OOC schedule a total joke. at the end of the day, losses matter, plain and simple. you lose more than 1, and lose one by 40+, no amount of conference strength is going to help you. osu ghetto stomping a 10-2 oklahoma team, at their house, at night, is what tipped the scales. had they simply flogged some ohio mac school instead, they probably aren't in the playoffs.

The B10 being good is needed.
But SCum being good only makes it harder to recruit. And since incoming talent is crucial to success then having SCum good is hardly a help to the Bucks.

Yes it is much more fun beating them when it really takes something away from them. But no one outside the rivalry really cares when it comes to the whole NC discussion.

Right now you want to have a Home and Home series with someone that the whole Nation would truly care about. Get one with Bama. It will never happen as Bama manages that schedule like crazy. Heck they dropped my Spartans from a H&H just this year. Bama is just like most teams in that they know if they go undefeated or have only 1 loss they are in good shape to make the playoffs.

I am really hoping for a OSU vs Bama NC game. I am not sure OSU is ready to beat Bama this year but it will be a good sneak peak into the next couple of years and prepares OSU for Bama next season.

Bama defense looks as good as any college defense I have ever watched. Number 1 in scoring and total defense. And they have 10 defensive TDs and 4 punts returned for TDs.
