SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

The B10 being good is needed.

No, it isn't. Not for OSU.

Win big Bowl games and OOC matchups. You want the easiest path to undefeated as possible through your conference if the goal is consistent playoff appearances.

Many great CFB dynasties were built on a team with a weak, or no, conference. Miami, Florida State, Nebraska all made hay for a good stretch while their conference literally couldn't field a team capable of beating them.

With the current system you must have a conference that is considered decent or go undefeated.

I am not sure having 1 loss and being in a crap conference would work.

Yes if OSU goes 12-0 they get in every year. If they go 11-1 then they have to be respected. And at 10-2 they better having something besides good looks keeping them in the discussion.

The difference between Urban and the coach of TTUN: I have heard Urban praising TTUN since The Game. Yesterday he said, "Our rivals, that team up north, that was one of the best teams we have faced in the past 5 years." Anyone provide me a link to where the TTUN coach has said anything similar. If it's out there, I haven't seen it.

completely agree. Late season conference losses are the killers.

Strong team in a weak conference going undefeated through it with a tough OOC game to either win (or have time to recover from in September) is the surest path to playoff entrance imo

I wouldn't take too much away from Bama though. They did schedule USC this year which takes some testis. They have also played VTech, Wisky, and Ped. They schedule far enough out too that you can't always predict how good USC is going to be either.

Eh, Washington was fortunate that the B1G and Big 12 champs both had 2 losses. They would be on the outside looking in if they had 2 as well.

I'd say it's going to be decently rare that we see 2 loss teams make it into the (4 team) playoff. It would take a lot for them to put a 2 loss team over a 1 loss team.

I think this year will help drive the 6-8 team playoff.

All 5 Power Conference Champs get in and then 1-3 wild cards (depending on if 6 or 8 teams).

I like 8 teams.

So this year you get :

Bama SEC Champ
Clemson ACC Champ
Washington PAC 12 Champ
Ped State B10 Champ
Oklahoma Big 12 Champ
OSU Wild Card
SCum Wild Card
last spot open for debate......give me Western MI 13-0 Cinderella story......this is gonna be 8 seed and be sacrificed at the Bama altar anyway

They then would have a meeting to decides seeds.

The only question would be top 4 seeds getting semi home games. Would need to be at locations to insure turnout. I would almost say home games but no one wants to see a game at MSU or Wisconsin next weekend......LOL

So maybe teams have a neutral site dome close to the higher seed. Somehow you want to pump up ticket sales.

I do not see how they do not end up with an 8 team playoff taking all the conference champs. And BTW as I predicted. B10 champ was seeded higher than SCum. So they hardly had a chance. They needed 2 upsets to get into discussion.

The Bucks either need SOS or they don't, you can't have it both ways, especially if you don't get into your CCG.
Needing SOS and needing scUM to be good are two entirely different things.

The Buckeyes had plenty of SOS in 2014 when Sparty (#5) and Wisky (#13) were top teams. Let them be good. Let scUM go 0-12 every year.

They suck so people are leaving them out in every "better playoff format scenario" but recall, the system was designed to, and still does, include ND.

The CFP on any given year has to pick the top 4 out of a pool of all five P5 conference champs, ND and any at-large type team like OSU was this year.

I have floated the expand to 8 idea myself many times and it dawned on me the other day, it still would only leave room for 2 WC's in any year that ND can field a decent team. They will always grab a spot.

The more I think of it, the more I don't think adding 1-3 weaker teams every year because they are the auto-bid conference champ or ND is a good idea.

Jax, what happened to you, man? You used to be one of the guys on here holding the line against the playoff, and now you're having to talk yourself out of the inevitable 8-team expansion?

I just don't have a case of the ass over Michigan that you and others have. They didn't break into my house, insult my wife, grope my daughter and kick the dog. At some point in time during that endless night that was the 90s Ohio State football, I actually loathed The Game. It was difficult to watch and even harder to accept the outcomes - especially since several of the Buckeye teams that lost those games were loaded with talent - perhaps even more than is on the field now - and they still found ways to fuck up The Game. I suspect there are some Michigan fans who are now going through the same nightmare. I don't mind that. But beating an 0 - 11 team just seems like ending the season with a "who cares?" As I've said before, if what you want for a season finale is an almost sure fire win, make Indiana The Game.

In a few years of 0 -11 Michigan teams, The Game will be dropped to BTN instead of national - the media will spend zero time enthusing over the event. And what will you have to get excited about? Yin gotta have a yang or it's just a circle.
