Should semipro/college players be paid, or allowed to sell their stuff? (NIL and Revenue Sharing)

IT’S * BECAUSE OF * THE GAME. EA Sports College Football 25 was a massive hit – yes, massive like a certain streamer’s low-taper fade – becoming the highest-selling sports video game of all time in total dollars. Now, EA Sports will share its spoils with Football Bowl Subdivision players.

According to The Athletic’s Chris Vannini, EA Sports emailed all FBS players Tuesday and said it will increase name, image and likeness payments from $600 to $1,500 for their inclusion in College Football 26. Players will also receive a Deluxe Edition of the game, a carryover compensation system for College Football 2

Unfortunately the money has now become more important than the quality of education that the "student"- athletic gets.

The schools have so over inflated the price of the education that everyone has to reconsider the ROI of a college degree now.

Don’t blame NIL, athletes or parents.

Agreed, and I think everyone agrees. But no one knows who will step up and be the grown up.

That's the wrong question though. The NCAA has tried to step up, the B1G and SEC are going to try too. They will fail because it's unenforceable until there is employee status and a collectively bargained agreement.

Until then, you are colluding to impede the rights of a tax paying US Citizen to earn a living. The SCOTUS has a very clear stance on that and it's no bueno for people who want to make up rules that said citizens don't get to have a say in.

I'm not a lawyer but I don't think you need to be to follow the bouncing ball on this one.

Agree 1000% on this. Congress and SCOTUS want no parts of this mess. And then the next question is, when does employee status and a CBA begin? Because I see the cluster F continuing, at least I guess until the scenario of the SEC/B1G football league starts

I’d say it’s going to take this effort by the B1G/SEC that seems like it’s bringing some order to get promptly challenged in court before the power brokers throw in the towel and accept what has to come.

PSA: these organizations trying to “step up” make rules/save the sport etc, are just trying to gain the power to control the money. There is nothing magnanimous about it. They want to control hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue and just like when the government tells you they are violating your rights for your own good, these bastards will sell the narrative of saving the sport/doing it for the kids.

Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining. They just want the money and are still pissed off they have to share any of it.

Speaking of the legal challenges anyone trying to control players without their consent is going to face…..

Eligibility limits illegally constrain and suppress my ability to earn……

Schools better stop fighting it and come to grips with a new reality.
