I disagree, it is all about the actions/attitudes/decisions of individuals. Lack of institutional control is just individuals blatantly/consistantly doing the wrong thing and/or breaking the policies/rules/laws. The football team, the student body, the faculty, the alumni, and the taxpayers of the state did nothing wrong, so why punish them? Football at Penn State is a revenue producing sport and provides scholarships tp 85 young men that otherwise may not be able to afford college. Undoubtedly the money generated from football at Penn State funds all the school's other athletic programs too; without those funds you would have to eliminate may other programs or get additional funding from the state (i.e. taxpayer dollars). You don't have to start from scratch to "fix the problem"; just replace all those individuals in "the program" that were the problem.

I'm pretty sure that there is no provision in the Pennsylvania constitution that its taxpayers be entertained by a public university. I'm not advocating shutting down the university, which is why I assume the students and alumni are there in the first place. They can live without a football program for two or three years. The university will not stop running.

As for the football players, we're not talking about some coal miner's kid on academic scholarship. Every single one of those players will have a football scholarship waiting for him at another university. They can choose to take it, or they can choose to stay at Penn State and finish their degree. It's their choice, but to assume that these people will be back on some street corner in South Philly is disingenuous.

For other revenue sports, Penn State will just have to kick in the necessary operating costs out of their general budget. That's not something that I'm generally in favor of, but this is a special situation.

Penn State, for over a decade, was knee-deep in the worst case of LOIC in college history. The culture that produced that transcends a few individuals and removing them won't cure the root problem.

Since I'm advocating the entire university be shut down until the completion of this investigation, yes, the football program is part of that.

I'm not for shutting down the whole university. I am for absolutely flushing out the inbreeding and bringing in outsiders to run the place. One thing that really shocked me about the place is how incestuous and inbred the administration was. They were virtually ALL alumni with more than a sprinkling of former JoePed players. That's virtually unheard of for a major American research university.

Bring in outsiders to run the place. Stop letting your fucking alumni elect trustees. Shut down the football program for three years. I think that would be a good start.

Along these lines, I have not seen this mentioned yet; but has there been any mention of the B1G removing Penn State from the conference?

If not, when you mentioned they need to bring in outsiders in to run the place, perhaps the B1G could take control for a certain number of years.

The only way that would be a smart/logical move revenue wise is if Notre Dame joined the conference, and I just don't see that happening.

First of all if something like this ever happened at tOSU..I'd be done. I'd pack up everything S&G and put it in the basement, if not just take it to goodwill. Hell I might not even watch sports anymore. Just to put some perspective on that..I think the whole tatgate thing is a bunch of bullshit..with everyone involved..i can't imagine selling any of the things that were sold..but I can imagine buying them. LOIC? I don't think so, my opinion.

Now had this "vote" been about the "U" I'd say hell ya kill that football team as I know they are the dirtiest program ever to put a team on the field. I say this because you can't convince me Michael Irvin ever attended a class. Now it just may be my opinion but that's how i feel about Miami..LOIC? In the past..Oh I'm sure. Today? Wouldn't be surprised.

Now as for PSU. This is THE most vile and corrupt thing I've ever seen in my life. When you use the term LOIC..this has got to be the mountaintop. This isn't just some dirty football program. This isn't a fucking Trans Am to come play for our school. You have an assistant coach that "retired". You have a "honor first" head coach that knew of the pedophile ways of the "retired" coach. You have a school president and an athletic director that were well aware of the situation too! What did they do? Not a fucking thing! To protect the image of the university and it's football program they did nothing. In fact they did worse than nothing. They let this pedophile continue to use his knowledge of the university and it's football program to lure young kids...boys...into his twisted little game.

So yes, I think they should shut down the FB program. As far as the school goes..I could give a fuck less about anyone there. I honestly don't want them in the BIG anymore and would be more than happy to see them get beat by New Mexico State on a yearly basis.

Luckily tOSU isn't run by a bunch of fucking goons.

With all due respect I cannot diasagree any more with that. In my opinion, the question isn't in regard to shutting down the football program, it's about the viability as an institution of higher learning. My question does not stop with the football program. It extends to questioning every state and federal dollar that goes to support any and all of its programs. Would their be some innocent casualties should all federal and state funds be pulled? Yes, of course there would. But at the same time you know that everyone would be looking deep and hard at their governing bodies and asking if they trust their futures with their current leaders. This would only bring about the level of personal and professional integrity that we all expect from our leaders... Would this not be great, public sector or private alike. Those in a leadership position need to be held accountable for their actions, this would go a long way to ensuring that people are doing more than casually observing leadership from a distance.

So, yes... The program and the entire public funded portion of the school goes on ice indefinitely should the level of corruption we're suspecting took place is found to have taken place in a court of law.
