Why we should not care about decommits
A certain type of player, with a certain type of psychological make up, will flourish under Strong. I think a lot of what he does is meant to be a filter. A filter to keep players out of his program that do not fit in with his vision of a solid football team. This is a good thing.
I think someone like Mack Brown (and I think this is true of Sumlin, too) recruits talent/potential only. You wind up with talented but weak teams except for when the stars (players) align to give you the right combination of skill, leadership, toughness, moxie, etc... at the right positions to make a championship run possible.
I think Strong knows exactly what type of players he wants on the football field, and only one facet is athletic ability. If they waver now and decommit, it probably saves him the headache of dealing with them transferring later or being malcontents and disrupting team chemistry. Much easier to simply move on now and not waste time trying to develop them into someone functional in this environment.
disclaimer: I recall seeing some similar stuff with a few of Tressel's misses
Shaggy rationalizing..
If Gentry is in the mix for their starting job, their QB situation is even worse than ours. Way worse. Think about that.
