Shaggy Texas - Shaggy Bevo, Thujone, MS Pain, Butt Hurt, and BBQ (RIP)

The shagsters use the term Mythical National Champion in the same pathetic, longing way that Hoke used the term Ohio.

They're all mythical unless Texas happens to win it. In which case, it becomes the culmination of the greatest season ever being won by the greatest team ever*.

*even if the star player is legally considered "retarded."

A lot of Texans don't like Strong for the obvious reason.
But, they love their football and would accept him if he makes them a winner again!
Texas is loaded with enough talent to make a purely Texas team a national contender.
He should be able to accomplish that easily enough if the Texas people support him fully.
But that's a big question right now.

For all the shit they throw aggy's way about them turning on Sumlin and burning crosses in his lawn, should Skrong fail to deliver them to the promised land, it will be every bit as ugly amongst the "enlightened" set in Austin.

I was always under the belief that tOSU fanbase and the UT fanbase
were very similar in their passion and size but that there was also a mutual respect due to the awesome games we've had. Apparently I guessed wrong?
.

Far from it, Dude. They have an absolute schoolgirl crush on Michigan. As part of their Texas arrogance, they are obsessed with being considered an academic peer of Michigan (despite being way more similar to Illinois, Wiscy or Ohio State). The saddest result of this is that they insist on trying to pigeon us into the Oklahoma role....as in UT/UM vs. OU/OSU. So, we are the shitty school that cheats at football. It's almost universally believed over there.

Mack did a damn good job of get top players in texas to buy into the longhorn mystique. This often meant they had their class finished before the football season finished, but might have resulted in them missing out on late bloomers. I'm not sure strong will be able to make ut the destination it was under Mack with tcu and baylor rising up and atm looking good too.

I hope they find solace that the late season 05' OSU team would have taken their lunch money. It's by the grace of god and the strange lack of power football approach by Tress that the Horns made it out of Columbus with a W.

And Ryan Hamby's stone hands!

Tressel simply did not know what to do with that offensive talent. In 06, it was too much that it literally busted out of his system.

Damn, I do not miss the days of constantly playing like a two touchdown underdog trying to nurse a ten point lead in the fourth quarter.

I absolutely believe Strong can make them a good team. However he's going to need to do what Tressel did - put a fence around Texas for the top recruits and make sure they don't leave the state, let alone UT.

Problem is, they've dug their own grave.
Florida has 3 schools in 2 P5 conferences,
California has 4 schools in 1 P5 conference

... but with the addition of TCU, Texas has 5 schools in 2 conferences.
Building a fence wasn't likely with OU having their flag firmly planted - losing Aggy to the SEC just made it impossible. Replacing Aggy with a 5th in-State school only made it worse by adding even more competition.

There's too many hands in that pot to build any fences.

I joke about the Big XII being a mid major conference, but that is exactly what the old SWC was before it merged with the Big 8, especially after Arkansas bolted. You had two major teams in Texas and A&M, and a bunch of mid major caliber Texas programs who could only compete by cheating, like SMU. Texas and A&M only had to beat the other, in their only important conference game. It would be like Ohio State and Michigan dumping the rest of the B1G and joining the MAC.

Skrong's a solid coach, and runs a system that should fundamentally work there. However, I can't help but think he's going to be going up against the same "culture" problems that ultimately torpedoed dickrod at tsun.

That pretty much covers it! Can they get out of their own meddling ways and let Strong just coach? I'm betting they aren't "ready" yet to give up control.
