Redd could give Bucks a shot in the arm

Michael Redd's return to the starting lineup is expected to give the Bucks a lift on offense.

St. Francis - The reintroduction of a 21-point scorer to an NBA starting lineup typically is not debatable, especially when the team in question has lost four straight and is five games below .500.
But where Michael Redd and the Milwaukee Bucks are concerned, there are questions.
The perception exists that Redd is counterproductive to the kind of team play that new coach Scott Skiles is trying to re-establish. The fact that Redd, without much regard to defense, has taken a whole lot of shots for some dreadful teams has reinforced that notion. The past image of Redd firing it up with four other guys standing around is predominant, even if it was exaggerated.

Milwaukee is having the type of season that the Cavs need if they decide they want to make a play on Redd.

Lots of time before the trade deadline, but they haven't played well without Redd, and they're already in the hole a bit. Whether or not Cleveland decides they want to pursue Redd, it'd be nice to see Milwaukee in the tank to have the option.

Redd Thinking Playoffs
By: Wendell Maxey Last Updated: 1/20/09

On another brisk and windy night in Portland, the Blazers found one way to cool off Michael Redd: put him on freeze.
After a mediocre outing, the Milwaukee Bucks' shooting guard sat in the visitor's locker room at the Rose Garden soaking his feet in a large bucket of ice. Interview after interview, question after question, Redd literally "chilled out" after the tough loss.

"I feel good about my game. When you score 44 points one night (Friday versus Sacramento), it's kind of hard to get off the next night," Redd told HOOPSWORLD soon after the Bucks dropped one to Portland.

"But I've been in a good rhythm."

For Redd ? an all-star and Olympian - that cadence always seems the case. Without question, he owns one of the smoothest strokes in the game, a left-handed constant he knows will be there when times get tough in the clutch. Then again, Redd is plenty familiar with the hardships of the NBA, particularly playing in a small market like Milwaukee where winning seasons have been obsolete.

During his eight-year career with the Bucks, Redd has played for five different head coaches. That's five different coaching philosophies; five different offensive and defensive schemes.

"You just have to adapt. You have to adapt to a new system which can be frustrating, but hopefully we have some stability," Redd explained.

"The team is playing better than they were last year. We just have to keep fighting."

Michael... if you're thinking about the playoffs... you're probably thinking you're being traded to Cleveland... which is where you should be anyway... welcome aboard.. and what took you so long?

Buck's best case scenario: Barely make the playoffs and get swept by one of the top 3 seeds in the East. Rinse and repeat next year.

Redd's best case scenario: He gets traded to the Cavs. Between Mo and Lebron he gets 10-15 open 3's a game. Scores 21 pts a game. Makes the Cavs favorites to win the NBA. Everyone in Ohio is happy.

If I could pick one player that I would love to play for the Cavs that has a sliver of a chance to get traded to the Cavs it would be Redd.

Michael Redd suffers knee injury

MILWAUKEE (AP) ? Bucks leading scorer Michael Redd strained his left knee in Saturday night's game against the Sacramento Kings and will undergo an MRI exam Sunday.

Redd, averaging 21.4 points a game, said he came down on teammate Luke Ridnour's foot after missing a shot near the basket with 4:16 left in the third quarter. He immediately winced, and limped about 30 feet before falling to the court for a few seconds. He then limped off the court and didn't return.

"I landed on his foot and it twisted, so I knew it was hurt," said Redd, who was on crutches after the game.

Redd, who finished with 14 points in 26 minutes, missed 14 games in November with a sprained right ankle.

"It's part of the game," he said. "When you play hard, things like this happen. I'm disappointed, but you know what, I'm going to be OK. I've had numerous injuries over the years and I'll be back."

The MRI revealed tears in both Redd's ACL and MCL, which will surely sideline him for the season and possibly preclude him from ever being an asset for the Bucks, or another team, ever again. The parallels to Allan Houston are very scary.

The Woelfel World of Sports

Milwaukee just can't catch a break this season. We posted an 8-4 record with our full compliment, but our most valuable player Andrew Bogut has been out for two extended stints now, not to mention numerous other players have been hampered by injury. We would be a lock for the playoffs with even reasonable health, and would still make it as of today, but now it appears the season is in major peril. It couldn't have come at a much worse time because any tank could be the final one that will force Senator Kohl to sell the team and relocate them from Milwaukee.

thats awful.....hopefully he can make a comeback. I guess the bright side is he is a great shooter, and didn't rely on slashing much.

This also means any chance of the Cavs trading for him are over, however unlikely that was.

Most importantly, I just hope he gets better....

He was a very underrated slasher. Mike was very adept at sealing defenders and using a deft touch off the glass to score. Also, not an athletic or quick guy, but he weaved through traffic pretty fluidly. I have knee injuries and he's not going to be nearly as capable of moving laterally.

Terrible news all around... we were all disappointed when he stayed with the Bucks a couple of years ago. But he truly is one of the good guys, and you never blame a guy for staying loyal to the franchise that gave him his chance.

Hopefully this won't signal the end of his career as a productive scorer.

Lousy News, indeed. Wish nothing but the best for Michael. Hell, he's a Buckeye first and foremost as well as an Olympian. Michael is what's "right" about Pro athletes and is a great role model. Hope he makes it back soon. The game needs him.

Peace.
