I will say this -- this is a big time opportunity for Musa if he's got full mobility back. We all know how important defense is to Holtmann and with the Wesson bros and now Luther leaving, Holt's got to replace his three most proven defenders.
Fortunately a gap man D doesn't necessarily put a ton of pressure on individual man D ability but the team effort and communication have to be good and it does help to have at least 1-2 guys on the court at all times who have length and are quick to help. Jallow, Sueing, and Towns are all coming off foot/leg injuries and Towns was never especially quick to begin with. Jallow has the most time in the defensive system, Towns will have had very little. Eugene Brown has plus length and athleticism but will be a true frosh and needs to add strength.
I wasn't sure if Jallow was gonna be able to carve out a role again with the additions of Sueing and Towns but I think it is there now if he has regained most of the quickness and explosion that he had. Theoretically, him and Liddell could end up the lynchpins of our defense next season.
Something happened when he and Washington got suspended. Then shortly after that Carton went home..those 3 had issues among themselves..just speculating.
It's a different age in college basketball and society. Matta had a boatload of transfers at the end of his tenure, and he bent over backwards to not recruit over players and be loyal to them. Many kids these days aren't going to stay at one school unless they get everything they want. It is what it is. Holt is doing the right thing and using his 13 scholarships to reload.Obvious that there is something going on there.............Holtmann is responsible for bringing these kids in and ultimately keeping them in the program. I am concerned about the consistent transfers and early departures and his ability to move the program to another level. As in ACTUALLY competing for a Big Ten championship.
If you are going to have the boatload of transfers how you navigate it and what is the bottom line. I don’t want to hear I can’t win cause these kids transferred. It's a different age in college basketball and society. I’m not.
