SG Jordan Sibert (Atlanta Hawks)

Why does anyone give a crap about UD?

I don't care if he goes to Dayton, Cal Poly Pomona, Arkansas State or Alaska-Anchorage. If he's not a Buckeye, I hope he has a good life but couldn't care less about his new team.

Because I am from Dayton and am a Flyer fan.

Sibert enjoys visit with UD
Ohio State transfer
also contemplating
visits to Xavier, Missouri.

During his trip to check out the University of Dayton basketball program on Friday, Ohio State sophomore transfer Jordan Sibert saw more familiar faces than he might on a normal college visit.

UD coach Archie Miller was once an assistant at OSU and recruited Sibert out of Cincinnati Princeton High School. And Flyers assistant Kevin Kuwik was on the Buckeyes? staff during Sibert?s freshman year.

?I really enjoyed it. I have a good connection down there,? Sibert said. ?Actually knowing them and hanging with them, it was great catching up with them and talking about everything with my future and what they see in me.?

The UD coaches likely see a high impact player for the 2013-14 season once he sits out a year for transferring. Although he played sparingly for the Buckeyes, the 6-foot-4 Sibert was a top-50 recruit in high school.

The Flyers are looking for guards who can play immediately since they have just three in the program, including incoming freshman Khari Price. But they?ve needed to replenish the position after two freshmen transferred following the 2010-11 season, and Sibert would be a quality addition.

?They talked a little about my role and what they expect for me to play and everything they have going on,? he said. ?I feel really comfortable with everything they were saying.?

Ohio State transfer to join UD
Sibert will have two seasons of eligibility starting in 2013-14.

Monday, May 7, 2012

Jordan Sibert was pursued by about 10 colleges after announcing he was transferring from Ohio State, but the University of Dayton may have had an advantage over the others because it had an ally in the family.

Sibert?s brother, Logan Brogden, attended UD from 2002-03 and almost made the team as a walk-on. He still has long-standing friendships with former Flyers Warren Williams, Logan White, Marques Bennett and others.

As an assistant coach for AAU powerhouse All-Ohio Red, Brogden goes to several Flyer games each year with recruits. And while Sibert saw UD Arena on his visit to the school a couple of weeks ago, Brogden was able to tell him what it?s like with 12,000-plus seats filled.

?The atmosphere and the fans ? it?s a basketball school. And the fans love their players,? Brogden said. ?That was definitely something I talked to Jordan about. Players like him who like to play at a faster pace and get out and do what they can do and showcase their talents, that?s a great thing to have behind you ? a crazy fan base.?

Sibert, a 6-foot-4 guard who starred at Cincinnati Princeton High School, has decided to enroll at UD and will have two seasons of eligibility beginning in 2013-14. He?s the fourth member of the Flyers? 2012 recruiting class ? they have two scholarships to fill ? and said he picked UD over Xavier and Cincinnati.

?My approach to this is I?m hoping I can do a lot for Dayton ? not from a personal aspect, but I really feel like I can bring a new light to Dayton basketball,? Sibert said. ?Hopefully, I can bring something people haven?t seen in a while, get us in the (NCAA) tournament and get us far in a tournament and build an even higher legacy in Dayton Flyer history.?

Princeton alum Jordan Sibert excited to hit the hardwood at UD

05/16/12

I?m writing a story about former Princeton standout Jordan Sibert transferring to Dayton. Here?s my first draft?

Former Princeton High School basketball standout Jordan Sibert will soon be hitting the hardwood a little closer to home.

After two years playing for Ohio State, Sibert announced he?ll transfer to the University of Dayton. Because of NCAA rules, Sibert will be required to sit out the upcoming season and won?t be eligible to play until the 2013-2014 campaign.

?I?m very excited,? Sibert said. ?It?s definitely a great program and has great people. It?s very exciting to be coming closer to home and it?s just a great feeling.?

The change comes after Sibert played sparingly during his sophomore season. He averaged 3.0 points and 1.4 rebounds in just more than 11 minutes a game as the Buckeyes reached the Final Four.

?Ohio State is a great school and has great people, but ultimately, you have to go where you?ll be able to play and play your game, and be who you want to be,? Sibert said.

“I trust Thad as much as anybody, and one of the things he said to me very early on is, ‘He can really help you guys there,’ ” Miller said. “Not that he couldn’t help them there or that they wanted him to leave. At the end of the day, all young guys want the opportunity to make an impact, and he has that here.

“Thad spoke very, very highly of Jordan as a player and a person. And I would think Jordan would speak very highly of Ohio State and Thad. But every situation isn’t the right one for you personally. I really trust those guys and I know the environment he’s been in — a Final Four-esque environment for two years, 65 wins and all those practices. He’s bringing a lot of experience at that level for us.”

Ex-Ohio State guard Sibert ?likes style of play? at Dayton

Former OSU guard Jordan Sibert loses the ball during a basketball game against Florida Nov. 15, 2011, at the Schottenstein Center. OSU won, 81-74.

Former Ohio State men?s basketball guard Jordan Sibert said it was in his best interest to transfer to the University of Dayton after playing two seasons with the Buckeyes.

Sibert played in 24 games for OSU during the 2011-2012 season averaging three points in more than 11 minutes per game. The 6-foot-4 sophomore said it was time for him to move on and that he feels confident in Dayton.

?I like their style of play and I like the direction their team is heading in,? Sibert said.

Sibert said he talked to OSU coach Thad Matta, family and friends before making the decision he felt was best for him after a long thought process.

?Just talking to coach, getting his opinion on me leaving and what he thought was the best option for me,? Sibert said. ?We talked about what option was best for my family and my future.?

Matta said he wished Sibert success with his decision.

?Jordan has worked to improve since he became a Buckeye two years ago,? Matta said in a release. ?He has represented our program well and we wish him the best.?

Sibert said Dayton?s coach Archie Miller was one of the first people to reach out to him after he declared his intentions of transferring.

?I know when I opened my recruitment he was one of the first people who contacted some of my family members, so I felt pretty comfortable with him,? Sibert said.

Sibert scored 12 last night. He scored 7 in a row in the final 3 minutes when the game was tied to pull away from St. Francis. He inexplicably played only 20 minutes and was not in foul trouble. He only got 22 minutes in the opener. Archie needs to get him more minutes. UD has absolutely zero 3 point shooters besides Sibert. Khari Price hit 4 in the opener but he was very inconsistent last year. Sanford is more of a slasher and shot 33% from deep last year and Darenbecker transferred.
