It just seems to be that Matta wouldn't keep around an assistant coach that is just haphazardly holding grudges against players for no good reason.

I would hope Matta wouldn't keep an assistant coach that is just haphazardly holding grudges against players for no good reason.

Either way I wish Jordan the best of luck where ever he ends up.

I don't like to see a player leave the program, but I am not in the players shoes to understand why a decision like this is made.

Yeah, what the hell do assistant coaches know:shake: They are not involved with the development of a player on a day to day basis so Matta should probably fire him.

Just for clarification, the assistant coach has formed the opinion for his own set of reasons. I wouldn't consider it a grudge.

But, like a lot of opinions, you can always find differing ones in the same group of people... I don't think it's anything underhanded (for the most part), just an opinion/reputation gained with one of the coaches that has and will likely hinder Jordan't playing time going forward at tOSU...

I just feel that his decision whether to transfer or not shouldn't be based soley on playing time. I ass/u/me he came to Ohio State to play basketball and GET AN EDUCATION. He should realize that if he can't break into the starting lineup at Ohio State, just maybe he isn't good enough for the NBA, etc. He should ask himself: What school offers me the best opportunity for a degree that will help me after college?

I really don't believe that an assistant coach will do anything tangible to hold Jordan back in the future. I think "the ball" of prospective playing time in the regular rotation is in Jordan's "court." If he improves his shooting, he is in the regular rotation - simple as that. He shot 30% from the field last year, and 26% from 3 - that's a problem with the player, not the coach's fault. Nobody who's a shooting guard who's main job is to stretch the defense is going to play a lot when they're shooting 26% on 3s, at least not when they're on a great team. As I said before, I think him making the rotation for good is as simple as shooting better (i.e., something close to 40% on 3s rather than 26%). The only reason I see justifying him transferring is if he is convinced he can't shoot the ball at the level it takes to play at OSU. I feel he has a very reasonable chance of playing significant minutes for OSU in the future. If he thinks he can shoot better, and is willing to put in the work to make that improvement, he should stay. Somebody will need to step up their shooting to help replace Buford, and I think Jordan can do just that.

You totally misread that, so I'll explain a little better so you can understand my point of view. You are assuming that assistant coaches are only involved with the student-athletes on a basketball basis. A poor assumption to say the least. So on a personal basis a grudge could be formed. I would hope that would never be the case and if it were I would hope any head coach for the sake of the player/program/etc would terminate that asst coach or whomever.

as opposed to developing them as a student, person, and a player. Coaches interact with these kids more than just on a basketball court.

With that said I'm sorry that you mis-understood my comments.

Now back to Jordan. Again I wish him the best of luck whatever he decides to do/go.

Jordan is officially transferring. I'm disappointed. I thought he could contribute next season. I don't buy the assistant coach dispute thing as being a barrier to him playing - again, shooting 26% is a player problem, not a coach problem. I hoped he would stick with it and improve - he was on the cusp of being a regular all season this year but just shot his way out of it. I thought he could get better and play a regular role for OSU, but what can you do? As Bo Ryan would say, violence is out of the question :)

Good luck to him.

Believe what you want, but I'm not guessing. Shooting 26% was the last straw said assistant needed to keep him on the bench permanently... A shooter needs more shots, and there were plenty available off the bench in the back court for tOSU this year. If you're committed to a guy, you let him play through it and give him the opportunities. The staff however did not, they went with Thompson. It's not like Sam Thompson ever came in and lit it up offensively to keep Jordan on the bench. He averaged just 2 attempts a game (shot 49% on mostly dunks), shot 7% from 3 and 55% from the line

Sibert considering Dayton, others
By Doug Harris | Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Jordan Sibert isn?t in a hurry to pick a new college, but the Ohio State transfer said he?s definitely interested in Dayton.

I saw him jogging on the OSU campus Wednesday as I traveled there for Buckeye football interviews. He said he?s trying to stay in shape and get ready for the next step in his life.

He?s been to Flyer games, having watched his brother, Logan Brogden play briefly at UD as a walk-on under Oliver Purnell.

?I know a little about (the program). When I visited, I loved Dayton,? he said.

He?s not handling the calls from colleges, saying OSU and his brother are taking care of that. But he said he?s also heard from Arizona, Missouri and Iowa State.

UD might be tough to beat, though, because of the closeness to his home and his past relationship with Archie Miller, who recruited him as a Buckeye assistant. Kevin Kuwik, a UD assistant, also was on the OSU staff last season.

UD basketball in hunt for ex-OSU player
Shooting guard confirms he?s transferring after two years at Ohio State.
By Doug Harris, Staff Writer
Updated Thursday, April 19, 2012

COLUMBUS ? Jordan Sibert hasn?t dealt with University of Dayton basketball coach Archie Miller in three years, but he remembers developing a solid rapport then with the fast-rising Ohio State assistant while attracting recruiters throughout the nation while starring at Cincinnati Princeton.

?That?s my guy,? Sibert said with a smile during a break from a jog through the Ohio State campus Wednesday. ?He knows how to win. He knows how to put people in good position. I really like Archie. I feel like he has a firm belief in me, and I have a firm belief in him.?

Sibert officially announced Monday he was transferring after two seasons at OSU, and Miller is hoping the two can build on their relationship in a new locale. The Flyers are pursuing the 6-foot-4 guard, who picked the Buckeyes over West Virginia and Xavier, and Sibert says he?s interested in UD.

His brother, Logan Brogden, was a walk-on for the Flyers in the early 2000s, and Jordan attended several games then.

?We had to sit way at the very top, but it was amazing,? he said.
