Turner's is the one with the shot that is almost like a missile..

Diebler has started to play with more confidence and is letting fly when he is open...

Last night he played some of the more aggressive ball I have seen from him since HS.

This year Diebler has shot 30% from the floor and 29% from 3 point range while playing 21 minutes per game.

In 2004 another Buckeye shot 33% from the floor and 23% on threes while playing 19 minutes per game as a Frosh.

His name was Jamar Butler.

When Jon Diebler escaped New York four months ago, it was under cover of darkness.
The Ohio State men's basketball team had been humbled by Texas A&M 70-47 in the championship game of the NIT Season Tip-Off and the team was headed to the airport. Diebler had missed all nine shots from the field he attempted. In his first four college games, the leading scorer in the history of Ohio high school basketball had missed 24 of 27 shots, including 18 of 20 from beyond the three-point arc.
"Keep shooting," teammate Jamar Butler said.
Five nights later, Diebler made five three-pointers and scored 19 points in a loss to No. 1 North Carolina. He had a nice run through the holiday season, shooting 50 percent from the field and making 19 threes in a span of six games.

Does anyone else get the vibe that every buckeye fan is holding their breath waiting for Jon to bust out and make 6 or 7 threes in a game? It seems to me on TV that the crowd cheers louder when he makes a three becuase they know what he is capable of and they want him to succeed.

I agree, you feel it in the arena as well...One other thing that I saw a little in the game against Dayton was that after he had hit the two that he hit, he was very anxious to get the ball again, and when he wasn't getting it you could tell he was getting frustrated a little and rushed his next shot...Remember he is a kid that took a mass amount of shots in high school and always feels that he can knock it down...After another year in the program he should be ok, just letting the game and shots come to him, and also work a little more off the bounce, and some running him off of screens more than just spotting up in the corner...Also inside out game should be better next year as Mullens will draw lots of double teams...

I think if you were to go back and read this entire thread, no need to now, but almost everyone who has posted in this thread feels the same way that you do. Every time Jon takes a shot everyone wanted to go in.

Thus the reason for lot of 4 guard lineup unless KK stays...

I still Diebs coming off the bench and being a spark moreso next year as he will have more confidence...

Name me a Buckeye who, when he shoots, everyone does not want the ball to go in.:biggrin:

Seriously, when a player has struggled the way Diebler has, fans react one of two ways -- wanting the player to disappear, and wanting him to stay in the game but to find his stroke. Fortunately for Jon, fans this season have wanted the latter. Too bad the fans did not have the same attitude about DaeQuan Cook.

They did have the same attitude about Cook until it became apparent that he wasn't going to play defense. The reason that I continue to approve of the playing time that Diebler gets is because he works hard on D. Same reason I wanted Butler on the floor as a freshman. Same reason I wanted Lighty on the floor as a freshman.

I differ a little with that take. Diebler and D Cook were two different types of players. Jon came in with a reputation of being a long-range bomber and those long-range shots have not fallen like everyone thought they were going to. Cook had a much different type of game and the fan reaction was probably different because they really are two different types of players and they also came from two different types of backgrounds. The city kid and the country kid. I don't think Ohio State basketball fans did not want Cook to make his shots or were rooting against him. It is just an entirely different situation.

I think the extended line will help Diebler next year...For the simple fact that it will give him more space to work, as he is a guy that likes to play behind the arc...

It will also help him stretch the defense even more...

I would like to see him do more off the bounce, but really I would just like to see him continue to hit shots on a consistant basis, around 40% would be great, but there is no way I see him shooting down around 30% like he was this year...

also would like to see him running off more screens next year...
