The Illini are the lone school to offer White. Whitney Young coach Tyrone Slaughter expects more to follow as they have with fellow Dolphins sophomore Tommy Hamilton Jr. and freshman Jahlil Okafor.

"Paul White's one of the top players in the country in his class," Slaughter said. "I think a lot of times people when they see Jahlil they kind of forget about Paul White. If you talk about it from a national perspective, Paul White is a top-10 player in the country."

Scoring isn't Thompson's forte and he struggled from the field in this game, but he does everything else at an impressive level. Playing as Whitney Young's primary ball handler, Thompson also defended at a high level and grabbed six rebounds. On 5-of-15 shooting, 1-of-6 from behind the arc, Thompson scored 11 points.

Boys basketball | Young coach wonders at McDonald's All-American snub

Of the 72 Illinois high school basketball players nominated for the upcoming McDonald?s All-American games, none was from perennial power Young.

The Dolphins have notable seniors on their boys and girls teams this season, including Ohio State-bound Sam Thompson and Michigan State recruit Kiana Johnson.

"I think there is some kind of problem with Whitney Young,? Young boys basketball coach Tyrone Slaughter said. "We have one of the No. 1 recruits in the nation, and he can't get nominated. It is what it is. You have some kids who score a lot of points, and their teams don't play the same level of competition. We play at a high level, and they get shunned."
