They pointed out that it was odd to see the former players introduced during one of the media timeouts, then pan back to the crowd and show Scoonie sitting there and not being on the court. So they tracked Scoonie down and got him on the phone. (It was an honest mistake - Scoonie didn't know where he was sitting, and wasn't with the other players when the arrangement to introduce them was made).
Anyway, Scoonie mentioned playing with the pups during open gyms this year. Specifically pointed out that LaQuinton is a monster and will put this team over the top. Thinks LaQuinton will play and get significant minutes the moment he's cleared. Added that if the nation could have seen LaQuinton and Buford on the court together last night, there would be no doubt who the #1 team in the nation is.
If Ross is cleared on or before the 9th, KU is in for a nasty surprise on the 10th at AFH.
I don't think he will be eligible until a few days, maybe only one, before we play Kansas so I doubt if he will be a contributor in that game. It will be interesting to see how Thad brings him into the game if he as good as advertised.Dryden;2053264; said:Was listening to Anthony Rothman and Demitrious Stanley during my lunch drive today. http://www.buckeyextra.com/content/blogs/hoops-and-scoops/2011/11/ross-will-visit.htmlIf he is ruled eligible, he could join the team Dec. 9, the day after the end of the fall quarter, and travel with the team to its game at Kansas on Dec. 10.
Ross eligible, returns Dec. 9
LaQuinton Ross and Ohio State received official word from the NCAA tonight that Ross has been granted initial eligibility to compete as a freshman for the Buckeyes, his former high school coach told The Dispatch.
The 6-foot-8 guard from Jackson, Miss., can rejoin the No.2-ranked Buckeyes on Dec. 9, the day after the end of the fall quarter, and would be eligible to play the next day at Kansas in their first road game of the season.
Ross, who enrolled at Ohio State in June and took summer classes, was denied initial eligibility in September after the NCAA ruled that his combined SAT score and core-course grade-point average did not meet the minimum requirement on the "sliding scale" the NCAA uses to determine initial eligibility.
His scholarship voided, he returned home, took online courses to make up for two classes in which he received D grades as a freshman and sophomore in high school, and took the SAT again on Nov.5. His new SAT score, combined with his original GPA, was good enough to qualify on the sliding scale, said Wilson Arroyo, his former coach at Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J.
Ross is expected to challenge for playing time on the wing as soon as he gets up to speed with his teammates. The word from former Buckeyes at summer pickup games at the Schottenstein Center was that he was the best freshman on the court and a three-point threat, which the Buckeyes need more of to take defensive pressure off Jared Sullinger inside.
