SF LaQuinton Ross (Memphis Hustle - NBA G-League)

I think Ross is like a poor man's Evan Turner. He does have remarkably good handles for a player of his size, so he could add some of that dribble drive element that the team may otherwise be somewhat short in outside of the PG tandem. But he could also struggle with TOs his frosh season much like ET did. Should be a good addition to the team and make the rotation if and when he is eligible.

He is a pure scorer/shooter. Evan struggled with shooting and was more of a slasher, especially early in his career.

Not even close to speaking the same language.

Ross & Thomas? Seriously? What, they're both black? That's where the comparison stops.

Ross IS a very good offensive player but that's not all he is. For one, he's about 2.5 inches taller than Deshaun at a similar weight and is a cat-quick perimeter player with a Deibleresque jumper.

Those 2 couldn't be more different.

Now, if you want to compare Ross to Danny Granger or Tracy McGrady, I'll listen.
I know what I'm talking about there, champ. And yes, different language indeed. All I'm talking about is defense. Not position, not height, not weight. Defense.

Thomas and Ross are not only black, but they were fantastic scorers in high school and weren't as fundamentally sound as they needed to be on defense at the high school level, let alone on the college level. Like Thomas last year, Ross is going to be schooled in the fine art of Matta D and it's going to take him some time to get it.

Ross is going to be a good one, but let's keep expectations realistic here. He's not going to be the 2nd coming of T-Mac when he finally steps on the floor in S&G.

It says something that when i have talked to multiple former players and sources that have said if ross was eligible at the start of the season that he would be starting ...depending on how matta wanted his lineup he would of probably been starting over thomas...at this point in the season lenzille smith makes more sense...bottom line is if and when this kid gets to campus he will eat up minutes and have an impact

Ross' return adds an interesting storyline to this year's team. The assumption is he will play, the questions are what position, how much and how productive will he be. It looks like this was a down year for recruiting, as the top guys in general seem to be a notch below what they typically are, so Ross probably is not going to be able to drop 20 in a game or anything like that. But we won't know what he can do until we see him against college competition. Hopefully he could be a guy that comes off the bench and can score 9-10 points occasionally.

Ohio State?s Ross Could Soon Be Cleared
By Adam Zagoria on November 23, 2011

Ohio State signee LaQuinton Ross did well on his recent SAT and could be cleared to play ?within the next 2-3 weeks,? Wilson Arroyo, his former high school coach at Burlington (N.J.) Life Center, told SNY.tv.

?According to NCAA rules, we are working within the guidelines to get him reinstated within the next 2-3 weeks,? Arroyo said.

Arroyo said nothing was official yet, but that the 6-foot-8 Ross ?got the results from his SAT test from November and did real well.?

?Just gave the good news to the staff,? Ross tweeted in reference to his SAT result.

Asked if Ross would be eligible to suit up right away when he returns, Arroyo said, ?If ruled eligible, then I believe the answer is yes.?

Ross will visit for Duke game

LaQuinton Ross, who is awaiting official word from the NCAA that he is eligible to rejoin the Buckeyes in a matter of weeks, will make an official visit to Ohio State for the team's much-anticipated game against No.6 Duke on Tuesday night in Value City Arena.

Wilson Arroyo, Ross' former coach at Life Center Academy in Burlington, N.J., text-messaged me the news tonight.

Ross, a 6-foot-8 guard from Jackson, Miss., enrolled at Ohio State in June with the rest of the 2011 freshmen to begin classes and participate in summer conditioning and pickup games with the rest of the team.

But on Sept.26, less than a week after fall-quarter classes began, Ohio State announced that Ross had been designated an academic non-qualifier by the NCAA and would not be on the roster when preseason practice began in October.

Ross immediately returned home and began the process of gaining eligibility, enrolling in two NCAA approved-online courses and preparing to again take the SAT college entrance exam.
