SF David Lighty (Most Career Buckeye Wins, ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket - France)

By my count, week 6 would be first week of Feb. Week 4-5? He must be making some serious healing progress with that foot!

I just don't want him to rush it and re-injure himself. Do what you gotta do to get better D-Light.

I'm skeptical that there are "people that know" that. Word from Matta when this happened was that it would be 6-12 weeks and they'd evaluate his progress at Week 4 or 5 & we're not yet to that time when they determined they'd evaluate his progress. Is Matta the type to "jump the gun" and evaluate him before he said he would? I doubt it. Until I see some statement from Matta regarding his progress, I'll continue to believe that a late January return for Lighty is entirely possible.
I have read quite a few of your posts and know that you are pretty well-informed but when cbf40 goals something like this
4-5 weeks is from people that know...Early February at the earliest, probably mid woul be more realistic...
I know that I don't question it so why should you:huh:

Dispatch

David Lighty, interviewed on the Big Ten Network at halftime Friday night, said the broken fifth metatarsal in his left foot is X-rayed every two weeks and, according to his doctor, "healing pretty great. Hopefully I come back in mid-February, or earlier if possible." Mid-February would be eight or nine weeks after surgery, or about halfway through the six-to-12-week recovery window that was forecast after surgery. The Buckeyes will have played about two-thirds of their Big Ten games by then.

Is this the type of injury you have to ease your way back into or will he be able to go 25-30 minutes a night upon return?
I would think that once he is given to go to play he will play as many minutes as Matta wants him to play. He has probably stayed in pretty good condition during his rehabilitation in the pool and doing other things that do not put pressure on that foot bone.

I just listened to what Matta said they would do. Is there any better source? I don't think so. I'm not sure that Lighty himself really knows exactly what the situation is right now (have they even had a meaningful re-evaluation? No, they haven't if they adhered to the plan that Matta set forth at the outset) and Lighty's comments reflect a good deal of uncertainty. Lighty is saying he could be back earlier than mid-February ... late January (Jan. 28th IMO is the earliest possible date for return to action) is still within the realm of possibility, although it seems like the chances are slim. Is there something wrong with having hope for the best and pointing out the best-case scenario is still possible?

Bottom line is he'll be back when the doctors give him the OK ... they seem to err on the side of caution, so it's quite possible, perhaps likely that it would take longer than the best-case scenario. We just have to hope he doesn't have any setbacks and gets back ASAP. If he has in fact been meaningfully re-evaluated contrary to the timetable reported by Matta, perhaps Lighty's comments are reflecting the doctor negative bias (e.g., the fact that doctors a lot of times tell a person they have a worse chance of survival than they actually have).

I guess why I'm saying this stuff is I like to exhaust all possibilities (on the positive side, at least), and I want to make sure that people keep in mind that the best-case scenario is still a possibility.

Dz83ck, cbf isn't guessing. I really don't get why you're extending this.

He said early to mid feb, more likely mid feb.
David said mid feb, maybe a little earlier (ie early feb).

You just got your statement from David which matched up perfectly with what you argued against.

Let me just say that anything else anyone has to say to counter DZ83CK's opinion just seems churlish to me. Can't we all have our dreams? :tongue2:
There's a difference between saying

I hope you're wrong and don't care what is reported

versus "nobody knows" (basically telling joe he doesn't know).
