Huge loss. Our only veteran and an energetic presence on the court. Time for the youngins to step up.

Hope DL can make it back in February. :(
It's a bad break: Foot injury will sideline Buckeyes' Lighty for up to 3 months

Terry Gilliam/Associated PressAn awkward step on a fast-break basket during Wednesday's victory over Jacksonville will idle OSU junior David Lighty for perhaps the entire Big Ten schedule.
COLUMBUS -- Just when he was finding his offensive game, Ohio State junior forward David Lighty could be lost for the rest of the regular season. While tying his career high with 21 points Wednesday night, Lighty broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot, the long bone on the outside of the foot, when he landed awkwardly after making a fast-break basket with about six minutes to play in an 81-68 win over Jacksonville. Athletic trainer Vince O'Brien said Thursday night that Lighty initially believed he just rolled his ankle.
"He didn't think much of it," O'Brien said. "He's a pretty tough kid."
Lighty looked fine during postgame interviews Wednesday, but O'Brien checked the foot again and discovered it was tender. X-rays Thursday morning identified a small fracture and surgery was performed Thursday afternoon to insert a screw and stabilize his foot.
O'Brien said Lighty will be on crutches for at least a month and it should be about six weeks before he can resume any basketball activity. The timetable announced by Ohio State in a release, 6-12 weeks, is a pretty big window. O'Brien said he has heard anecdotal evidence about recovery periods of everything from 4-14 weeks.
Missing six weeks would keep Lighty out for 12 games and allow him to return against Indiana on Jan. 31. Missing 12 weeks would keep Lighty out for the remaining 22 games of the regular season and see him back for the start of the Big Ten Tournament on March 12 or 13.

Jan. 28th would be 6 weeks to the day of his surgery. By all accounts, his recovery has gone well and there have been no setbacks. Lionel Chalmers returned in 5.5 weeks with the exact same injury when Matta was at Xavier. Hopefully Lighty will return in 17 days rather than 28 or so. IMO, the "early to mid-February" return discussion is about putting a conservative estimate on it rather than some clear-cut statement that he won't be able to come back prior to then.
