SF David Lighty (Most Career Buckeye Wins, ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket - France)

The thing with David is he finished the season last year on such a high note, and then had a great summer playing with the USA team...

He has done a solid job getting to the rim especially against UT, but he has struggled to finish...

Also we haven't been able to see the great things that he does on defense, even tho he is still doing them, because we aren't playing man to man...

I also would like to see him crash the offensive boards a lil more, because he seems to have a knack to get them when he goes crashing in there...

I don't want him to carry the team but I think he needs to step up his game a little. I almost think that Turner is playing better than David at this point in time.

I agree with all. I just thought, he was solid last year and on that USA team. So his soph year should be going better:(

The fact that he has can only be explained by a lack of effort.
Oh, I don't think it's because lack of effort. Matta went out of his way after the Michigan game to talk about Lighty's defense. I don't know maybe playing overseas during the summer took its toll on him. His free-throw shooting has even been off this year. He really needs to take it to the basket more rather than settling for outside shots.

The wings are clogged they are all trying to find their fit...I still think that Lighty and Turner could be better in a transistion type game, but the lack of us being able to run at all hurts that at times..LIghty is a solid shooter, has really worked on it, but missed his shots on Sunday...I really like his pull up game, and needs to do that a little more...He has struggled hanging onto the ball around the hoop and has been getting blocked on his layup attempts and hasn't been finishing real well...

I think that he will be fine...and will have some big games as the season goes on for us...

A transition game would fit are wings better. Relying on the 3 point shot is killing these guys. Being down three points against Iowa for basically the last six minutes and shooting nothing but 3's is know way to win if they're falling. Lighty looks like he has all the tools to be a decent player, but I think he lacks the drive to take it to the next level. I certainly hope he proves me wrong because I think he is the most talented player on the team. He has to look to create his on shot more and take advantage of his opportunities. :osu:

Lighty has really disappointed me, being my favorite player coming into this year, he has not impressed me at all.

Free throws, and shot selection are at question.

His defense, is no doubt, the strong point of his game, but the problem is, he has offensive potential.

He almost looks like Diebler the first half of the season. His outside shot cannot be found and he very seldom is taking the ball to the basket. I think he gets caught up in the air way too much. Have no idea what has happened to him. Seems to have regressed as the season has gone on.

He freaking travelled bringing the ball up court against pseudo-full court at Northwestern. Right now, he's a mess on the court, and he needs to straighten things out, or he'll be a forgotten man next year. He's got the skills, and he's got the effort, but he doesn't make the best decisions on offense.

Now, saying all of that, I wasn't a big Lighty fan last year, and he made some HUUUUUUUGE shots in the big Tennessee comeback. So, I'm getting down on him again, so he'll probably prove me wrong again and make a strong finish to the season.

Hopefully your magic:) will work again this season because we really need him to play well.

Just saw this stat: In the past three games, David Lighty has more turnovers(7) than points (6) rebounds (5) assists (6) steals(2) blocks(0)

EDITED--21
I have no idea why David's stats are not very good for the games you have pointed out. He has not played as well this season as he did the last part of last season when he got some minutes. I guess you just have to trust Matta. He sees them in practice every day and makes the evaluations. I would think that if he thought starting Diebler over Lighty would be beneficial he would do that. I am sure that David is more disappointed in his game than any of us. Also, you never know what is going on in a college student's head. Maybe this week of rest will do him some good.

Lighty is just going thru a slump and we need him to break out...He has had big games this season, has improved his shooting this year, but has struggled to finish, struggled to shoot the ball well from the free throw line, and as of late has struggled from the 3 point arc as well...

Just speculating, but Lighty is kinda the individual in terms of no one being in his class...There are the 6 incomers, the 3 seniors, Lighty and then Madsen...

I think next year will be a better role for him due to the fact that he will be looked to for leadership and I think that he will flourish in that role...

I also think that Lighty is a type of guy that would flourish in the open court, and in man to man defense, but right now we are not running very much due to lack of depth at the PG...

But make no mistake about it, Lighty is the hardest worker on this team, first one to show up last one to leave type...He puts up tons of shots, and his shot will continue to improve...He has shown at times his potential but lately has struggled for some to call him not to start are the same ones that called for Diebler to not get time at all...Give him time to turn it around and get out of the slump...
