SF David Lighty (Most Career Buckeye Wins, ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket - France)

The only negative thus far from Lightys summer, and I mean the only thing, seems to be the high amount of TO's. He's going to pick up more fouls playing the aggressive defense that he plays so thats not as concerning. I'd like to see him cut some of the TO's down, which he most likely will.

Anyone have any stats of the guys Lighty's been guarding?
Practice and playing will reduce the TO's. Come Buckeye BB he will be a major force IMO. I believe this PT has helped him tremendously.

Lighty really impressed me more and more as the season went on and during the big ten tourney and ncaa tourney i thought he improved just as much as anyone on the team. his one on one defensive skills were incredible and he really was key in that georgetown game shutting down Jeff Green. I really like his athletic ability, as he has great jumping ability and improved a lot on his shot. But he also has great strength, hes pretty well built, which could be attributed to his time on the football field. Who knows what he could've done playing football, but im satisfied with his basketball ability.

Raymar Morgan is not eager to return to Europe after playing basketball in Novi Sad, Serbia, for 11 days in July.

The trip with USA Basketball's Under 19 World Championship team gave the former Canton McKinley star a new perspective on life.

''It helped me appreciate everything,'' Morgan said by telephone last week from Michigan State, where he will be a sophomore this fall. ''Especially the food over there.''

Asked what he ate, Morgan said, ''I have no idea. A whole lot of fish, crazy-type stuff, lamb.''

When he returned home, Morgan said the first food stop he made was at Burger King.

Teammate David Lighty, a sophomore guard/forward from Ohio State and Cleveland's Villa Angela-St. Joseph, agreed that the trip was an eye-opening experience.

''When you see everyday life, you're thankful for what we've got. Everyone is not living like you are,'' Lighty said by telephone after he returned. ''There's a CVS on every corner in America. They don't have things like that; they have little shops. It was difficult to find souvenirs that said Novi-Sad on it. I was trying to find a T-shirt or something, I got a couple coffee mugs.''

David Lighty captained the U.S. under-19 team at the world championships in Serbia.

Before his team of basketball all-stars left for Serbia, coach Jerry Wainwright told the players they would learn more about mental toughness in the coming weeks than they ever would in the drills they routinely do in practice. He was prophetic. Daily temperatures in Novi Sad surpassed 100 degrees. The beds were uncomfortable and the food strange. The gym in which the FIBA under-19 world championship was played lacked air-conditioning.

Wainwright breaks down Team USA stars

7. David Lighty, Ohio State, MPG: 23.5 PPG: 8.7 FG: 68%* (31-of-45)

"What a great defender. David is like a poor man's Bruce Bowen (San Antonio Spurs guard). He was absolutely terrific. I named him our captain. He has a great motor and never had a bad possession. He tore his ACL not to long ago (suffered the injury entering his senior year in high school) but plays fearlessly. I'd love to have him on my team."

man Oh Man when does BB start? I be ready to see him be an animal this year. He needed a year of play to realize his potential and now he should be able to take his place among the elite.

:io:

Not in the elite category just yet...He is in the elite category in terms of defense, but he is still working hard to improve his offensive game...He will step up and be a leader on the team, and I do know that he is one of the very first to the gym and always working on his game...

He has a way to go to be in the elite level tho...wait till his senior year for that...
