I think what gets lost is what you don't see in the box score. His defense and unselfish play don't show up in the box score but is not lost on the coaches. He is a complete player, which is not common for his age group. There are tons of scorers who don't play defense.

Release: 07/16/2007

Michael Beasley helped the U.S. remain unbeaten at the FIBA U19 World Championships.

NOVI SAD, Serbia - Kansas State incoming freshman Michael Beasley chipped in eight points, four rebounds and two blocks, as the USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team (4-0) remained undefeated with a 90-81 win over Lithuania on Monday.

The U.S. David Lighty (Ohio State / Cleveland, Ohio) and Deon Thompson (North Carolina / Torrance, Calif.) combined for 36 points for the U.S., who continues second round play against Brazil (2-2) on July 17 (2:30 p.m. EDT) and second round play ends with a game against France (4-0) on July 18 (2:30 p.m. EDT). The quarterfinals are slated to be played July 20, semifinals on July 21 and the gold medal will be contested on July 22.

Lighty led the pack with 19 points, Thompson finished with 17, while Beverly notched 14 points, passed out four assists and had seven of the team?s 26 steals, four shy of the USA?s record at this event. Flynn finished with eight points and five steals.

"I guess I came out ready to play," said Lighty, who shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the field, 2-of-2 from

3-point and 1-of-1 from the line. "I felt good in warm-ups. I started early on the inside, trying to get to the basket as much as possible. That loosened up the defense a little bit and I got some wide-open shots in the third and fourth quarter."

That's truly great to see David doing so well. He's going to be an integral part of this team for years to come.

Agree'd he is gaining some valuable experience and playing time; you hate to see another player get hurt, but we/David are fortunate that he is getting a lot of playigng time because I think most people had penciled in Kansas forward Darrell Arthur as the starter prior to him going down with an injury.

David is def. making the most of it though! For years to come? I hope so, but you never know if he keeps playing this good, we might only enjoy him for one more season!

The only negative thus far from Lightys summer, and I mean the only thing, seems to be the high amount of TO's. He's going to pick up more fouls playing the aggressive defense that he plays so thats not as concerning. I'd like to see him cut some of the TO's down, which he most likely will.

Anyone have any stats of the guys Lighty's been guarding?
